Match Thread - Port Vale v Oldham Athletic

Today reminded me of a game from a few years ago and one from last season. The 4-1 home defeat by Macclesfield which saw the demise of Lee Sinnott and the 1-1 draw against Forest Green last season which was Brown's last game in charge. In both cases, like today, we seemed to lack the stomach for the battle and when things got tough, we didn't stand up to be counted. We look like a team whose manager has lost the dressing room. I say team but today we didn't look like a team, we looked like 11 individuals. We didn't attack as a team nor defend as one against a poor Oldham team devoid of any confidence. We are sleepwalking towards non league and anyone who's sat though the last month of dross cannot legitimately defend Aspin anymore. He has to go. It's as simple as that. We are in the same situation as we were when Brown was sacked in that we are desperate for an experienced league manager. We were then but Smurfwaite went for the popular vote to divert flak away from him. Sadly history suggests that yet again he will go for the cheap option and if and when Aspin goes, it wouldn't surprise me one little bit to see Pugh put in charge for the rest of the season. I'll be there at Lincoln Tuesday but with no hope whatsoever. We're a shambles again and I'm sick to the back teeth of it.

Pope was bullied and marked out of it by two centre halves and Clark is experienced enough to give him nothing.

Again Gibbons should have been used to replace Vassell and Clark moved to leftback.

Whitfield played well first half but got nothing on the left side.

How Quigley gets in the squad is ridiculous as he is a donkey best suited to Blackpoolbeach.

 

Took Vassell off and brought an out of touch Worrall on as he is now totally anti Gibbons. Our best threat was definitely Whitfield who then got pushed wide to accommodate the Donkey disguised as Quigley. To say we lost our shape is an understatement. A professional club being run and managed by Sunday league personnel.

As a season ticket holder I went Boxing Day, but decided after putting myself through that I wouldn’t be going again. As for renewing my season ticket, not a chance in hell.

 

I’m done with Port Vale whilst Aspin and Scumwaith are still there. Kills me not to go but it’s they only way or I’ll end up in a mental institution if I witness anymore of that. A real low in the history of Port Vale!

 

To all the happy clappers saying we have improved, check the facts we are 3 points worse off than this time last year.

How many more make or breaks does he deserve? He cannot change it round. He's clearly lost the players as again they gave up. Most fans have too.

Have not read every post in this thread so this may have already been said. But those players today looked as though they were playing to get Aspin sacked. I cannot pick out anybody beyond criticism apart from Whitfield. The goalkeeper had little to do apart from pick the ball out of the net. I wouldn’t pay Clark, Smith, Oyeleke, Pope, Hannant, Vassell, Quigley in washers. Montano, Kay, Legge and Worrall were no better than average.

Yes, totally cringeworthy interview. I’d been contemplating going until that point but that sealed it for me. He didn’t even realise Conlon had been dropped until Sandoz prompted him.

Brian Horton did OK

 

I agree he did ok but he never won a promotion as the other three named.

On another point, I remember when Brian Horton was appointed he was quoted as saying 'he left Brighton because he felt Vale had more potential'. He was probably right at the time but how times have changed!!
