Us losing to Swindon in the League meant that we didn't go up automatically, saw Swindon make the play-offs, which meant we got to beat them the way we did in the play-offs, which then saw us winning promotion at Wembley and gaining a good few new fans on the way. Not forgetting all this happened because Lucas got to drop kick McKirdy! Something we can only ever dream of doing. Crazy Cov deserves a bIoody statue and a stand naming after him!

We were lucky to be drawing to Swindon at that time, they were the better team and a very good chance we’d still have lost but either way he’s got my forgiving for drop kicking Mckirdy, I’m sure there are many players who would have loved to do the same.

I liked Grew too, but still only decent. I never saw Arnold. Goodlad is the best all round keeper I've seen in the 30 years I've been watching.
Goodlad and Alnwick are good shouts, I think. Grew and Mussy would look really uncomfortable if they were asked to play as much football as our keeper is now. They rarely left the six-yard box as I remember them (good shot-stoppers though, if prone to a gaffe). The sainted Scott Brown was a bit like that too. Some decent goalkeepers in my lifetime, but always a bit limited in their role. Covolan is the first I can remember willing to play a more expansive role - I'd like to see more of that, whoever is in goal this coming season.

All forgotten when they want to criticise!

Not forgotten at all.  The point is that Lucas isn’t the only Vale keeper we’ve seen make great saves which win us games.  Countless others have done so in the past, it comes with the territory.  Fans are rightly critical of the red cards, and manner of them.  Personally, ignoring those cards,  I always felt I’d seen better keepers playing for various opponents last season, one or two we’d been linked with last summer from memory, so I thought we could do better in that position going forward.  Not suggesting Lucas is a bad keeper, just that we could do better.

I don't buy this about DC not trusting him. He new what he was getting before signing him.

Covolan had, I'm quite certain, never been sent off before last season.

Is Carlo Nash working alongside Ronnie Sinclair or has he left too?

Some suggestion Ronnie has left but nothing official.  The following quote may give some clues, depending how you wish to interpret it.

Speaking about the arrival of Carlo Nash, Clarke said: “I like to always try and keep things fresh, and we saw the opportunity to bring Carlo in, he’s very experienced and brings innovative methods and ideas into training.

“Carlo is very ‘new school’ and he’s another really good acquisition for us as we continue to build and prepare for the upcoming season.”

I believe Jordan Pickford has been sent a few times, including for the first time at Vale Park early in his career, whilst playing for Bradford City. Hasn't affected his career to much.

Pickford got sent off after being outpaced by Chris Birchall to a loose ball.

Bizarrely the red card was rescinded on appeal, despite it being a clear DOGSO - the resulting loose ball was even put into the back of the net by Greg Luer.

Good luck Lucas and Welcome David Dunn and Carlo Nash .
So this is our squad and what positions they can play if required
Gk Stone
Right Backs Smith Robinson Cass OJo
Left Back Benning Jones Hussey
Centre Half Smith Hall Martin Jones
Wing backs Cass Worrall Benning
Midfielders Garrity Charsley Ojo Pett Walker Conlon Taylor
Behind the front two Conlon Garrity Charsley Taylor
Attackers Wilson Proctor .
So I reckon 1 more goalie a centre half like Hall cover for Worrall maybe someone who can play both wing back roles and 3 strikers required so 6 more but possibly get away with 4

I reckon Sinclair will be going if Nash is in. Dunn is a good addition as you’ve then 2 more coaches who’ve also played at the highest level of the game, if they can translate that into training sessions for the lads then it should improve them.

As predicted Covolan is trying to be offloaded, no surprise, I don’t think DC trusted him again after the Swindon red card. I still think we will see a couple more players be made available for transfer by the time the transfer window ends.

The suggestion that he never made any saves was very harsh though, which is why people defended him. Yes - it's part of his job...but no need to dismiss his time with us as inconsequential?
