As it's pretty quiet on here at the moment I'll throw in a name that's probably unrealistic but could be worth considering, and that's Mitchel Megginson prolific striker and captain of Cove Rangers. He was joint top scorer in Scotland last season and has scored 41 goals in 47 games for Cove. I'm surprised that no English club has taken a punt on him. He's taken Cove from the Highland league to the Scottish Championship. I believe that a few SPL clubs have been looking at him. He's 29 so no youngster but could be a shrewd signing. I would guess that he's not on great money, but would of course command a fee. A bit left field and is probably settled in Scotland, but you never know.

Just reflecting on the slow trickle of signings and I wonder whether league one wages has taken us by suprise and it's harder to get a sense of value. Certainly I think our model is for sustainable growth, recruiting under valued players (i.e brad walker) or with a point to prove (i.e James Wilson). 

I find it interesting that Exeter City have yet to make a signing. Around 6 of their players have left too. I wonder what their forums transfer thread is like.

Another talking point but is there an argument to say we have only made one signing this summer. I get the feeling that Cass deal was basically agreed in january.

I don't think I have ever been as positive about the future as I am these days.

We have a great owner who is implementing ground improvements whilst assembling a footballing and club structure the likes I have never seen before.

If someone in that structure fails to perform they will be replaced by someone better.

Players are fitness monitored continuously so I shall sit back relax and enjoy.

We also extended contracts to players who could have gone elsewhere, otherwise we would have had less players.

Football seems to be at that point in the cycle where numerous teams are throwing money at it again, in search of short term success.  We’re not only competing with our League 1 rivals, where there are a good number of well supported and well backed clubs, but, more than ever it seems, quite a few more bankrolled League 2 and National League clubs than in the past.  There’s no way on earth we can compete financially with these clubs, nor should we try, so we need to be a bit more shrewd, which is where we are.

Feels like slim pickings.

 

Those who you would perhaps think are unrealistic will be coming into view now as we get closer to kick off they start to lower salary expectations.

Tick Tock Tick Tock .....listened to all the quotes recently on this thread , and everyone has an opinion as to why we are not making signings  , my frustrated view is that we have made one signing , (Cass was already a done deal before last seasons end) , DC and DF continually told us last season that they are always looking at fresh targets , but as of yet we have lost 9 players gained 2 ... DC says hes prepared to wait until the end of August for the right players , that would be 8 games into the season , and some of those games against really good clubs , I think that we have been found wanting , and slow out of the stocks , also I dont think that the club had given much thought to the general wages being commanded in this division , there is no way that DC would have wanted to go to Spain with only two thirds of his squad . DC and in particular DF can huff and puff in the media but I think they have dropped a bit of a clanger  , and we  could be in for a bad start to the season , of cause my opinion is just my opinion , but I do have my doubts , hope I am wrong only time will tell , but the wait for new players is soooo frustrating

They would have to be extremely naive not to be aware of the going rate in the next division up from where we came. We have probably been outbid on a player or players, but most are holding out I think. Im expecting several players in this week sometime.

So many speculations without any solid evidence.

Unofficial Valiant has us signing Amy Winehouse-Bath Zombie Fag Papers according to his clues...it's ridiculous.

Like everyone I would have been happier with more signings but I'd much prefer to be in our position than,say,Bradford,who have lost about 10 and signed about 15. Kian Harratt has gone from first choice to fourth in around a week.
