Personally, I'd have kept Hannant as a versatile squad player that always puts a shift in.

 

The rest were to be expected, although I'd have thought Rawlinson would have been released as he didn't feature under Askey.

Conlon's option was to be triggered by the club (and was).

 

Worrall/Legge/Oyeleke + Rawlinsons options are to be triggered by the players.

Definitely cleared the decks there. I was fairly surprised with Hannant. I've never been wowed by him but he's normally nailed on first team.

 

Maybe he's got another option somewhere?

 

Well, theres certainly room for plenty to come in now and that's a good thing I reckon. But if we're going for a small squad and are in for the likes of Ryan lloyd I'll be very underwhelmed.

 

Hopefully Worrall and manny will stay.

Like I said his work rate cannot be questioned , but his quality with the ball was terrible

Askey mentioned he'd like Wozza & Manny to stay. He's probably told Legge & Rawlinson if they do trigger the year don't expect play much football, in the hope they go elsewhere.

Hannant not a massive surprise for me: on the pitch he was neither one thing nor the other. Off it he was a relatively high earner, got himself a bit distracted by fast cars and young women.

The squad for the last two seasons has looked down the barrel of relegation to non league so it's clearly not good enough. Ideally I'd get rid of a few more but that would cost money that's needed to rebuild and you have to keep some players just to have bodies. At our level it has to be evolution rather than revolution and I think this is a fine first step.

So that leaves us with 15 players including Trickett-Smith. It will be interesting to see who we bring in. I wonder if Miller will feature or are we hoping to get him out on loan somewhere to keep him out of the way until his contract runs out.

Technically, we may only have 10 first team players after the end of June, dependent upon whether Hornby signs the new deal offered, and any of the 4 who have the extension clauses in their contracts actually trigger them. So, until the end of June or confirmation of the position of these 5 additional players before then, it will be very much a case of trying to plan and bring players in knowing that some or all of the 5 may stay. I would also expect Miller's contract to be terminated at some point before the end of June and, quite possibly, Montys. Both of those are likely to be amongst the higher earners, I would think. Plenty of scope to bring in 11-12 players now, all of whom, bar any goalie, I would want to be better than what we have under contract. 2 strikers is a must for me, to actually compete with Pope for the jersey, and not simply be seen as his understudy.

Overall pretty pleased with the retained list. Hannant is obviously the one who will divide opinion, in my view he's a bit of a headless chicken, plenty of effort and endeavour but little quality. I'm sure he'll get fixed up in the national league, and that opinion is probably the reason he's been released. Well done Mr. Askey, a good day's work that is.

The manager has got rid of almost everyone he can. The only two he could have released but didn't were Hornby and Conlon. I doubt many would disagree with those two names. If he could have moved on Miller, Rawlinson, Gibbons, Whitfield, Montano, I am sure a few of them would have gone to, they still might

Hannant works hard but has very little quality

 

I said exactly this months ago but was met with responses of 'lay off Hannant, he's got the most assists'.

 

He'll run all day but produces too little IMO.

 

Was clearly one of Aspin's favourites - picked every game, despite being not quite good enough (same applied with Rawlinson).

 

No doubt Aspin will sign him up at whichever non-league club he rocks up at next.
