Their transfer embargo ended when the EFL sanctioned the deal to bring them out of Administration.

They are free signings. The new owner has told Derby fans the club will be run as a sound business and they shouldn't expect all at once to have a Championship winning team. So it looks like they will try to use the club's size to attract talent good enough to get out of League 1. I'm pleased with that, and maybe it's the influence of financial fair play. McGoldrick is a technically good player, but last time I watched him in the Premier League he didn't have enough head of steam, so surely we should be able to mark him a couple years on!

When contextualising this summer with Clarke's first season with Bristol Rovers in League 1, continuity makes sense. Rovers only made 5 permanent signings (none of which made many starts) and the key players remained constant. They supplemented this with a lot of loans, a lot of which seemed to have worked as most have had good careers since.
We have an excellent unity and the 'spine' of the squad (Cass, Smith, Hall, Walker/Pett, Conlon, Garrity, Wilson, Proctor) are all settled and at the right age. We still need a minimum of three, probably five signings, though - in goal, in the wide positions, and up top. I think it's fair to assess that the shortened summer has resulted in us missing out on one or two players we were after. I imagine Flitcroft, ideally, would have wanted more than 2 signings on the eve of our first friendly. The new five substitutes rule only highlights the need for genuine depth this season.
I'm less of a 'Trust the Process' man than a 'Trust Clarke' man - my faith in him as a manager is as high as it's been since Rudge. I don't expect 'The Process' to get every signing right (they've got the odd one or two wrong), but I trust Clarke to prepare a competitive, physical, and well-organised team that should be absolutely fine this coming year. As good as some of the things that Flitcroft talks about are, football matches are won by good managers organising good footballers. We have the former and a lot of the latter already.
I get your point but we're in a bit of a different position.

Harratt, Amoo and Edmondson have left 3 gaps up front.

Gibbons has left a gap at RWB.

Covolan has left a gap at GK.

That's 5 needed before we possibly move some others on.

I think we're light, but there is still loads of time left to plug the gaps.

Not that I’m aware of unlike John Connaughton in a home FAC game versus Walsall if I recall. 🤔

That episode and Steve Cherry at Enfield are enough to make a goalkeepers horror movie.

Don't forget a replacement for Denis Politic/Joel Cooper.

I imagine that DC will be going for loans, and as clubs have only just gone back, they will be assessing their squads and deciding who they want to go out to develop.

I would have hoped the squad would be almost complete before the trip to Spain.

Brisley did ok for us but hardly played for Wrexham last season and they failed to go up So I’m not sure what makes people think he would improve us in League 1 ?

Patience folks , pretty sure the back room won’t let us down and we’ll be pleased with who turns up .

UTV

Is this the Shaun Brisley who played around 30 games for Peterborough in the championship?

You may as well close this thread there's no signings .
It's Cass and Ojo and thats it , and Garrity is playing in goal as cover and and Sammy Robinsons playing in defence if anyone gets injured .
May as well have a thread on what you watching
Stranger Things very good on Netflix.
Academy good on Netflix also .
UTV .
6200 season tickets sold if all hospitality gets sold out and 4000 shirts in other news .
Fletcher is our 20 goals season striker UTV if signs in other news

Loans are all well and good but can disappear at the whim of the parent club, or if an offer comes in from another club, like with Politic. Give me permanent transfers over loans for the right players anytime, however they cost of course. Such is life when you compete in a higher league!

Cass worked out, could well have gone elsewhere but had spent time at the Vale so possibly the deciding factor. We also knew how he fitted in. Most clubs use loans so must be worthwhile.
