I can only recall Charlsley once this season. He put in an energetic performance and also passed the ball well. Something needs to change in midfield. We can't have two players who do similar things on the ball but also aren't stopping / disrupting the opposition when they have the ball. Charlton are a pretty big club, but they currently have a team that can be beaten with a good performance.

He was given Man of the match on the opening day v Fleetwood.

Since then i wouldn't even call him a bit part player, more the forgotten man. Which is strange given our 5 or 6 changes every week .

Stones mistake was highly demoralising for the fans and team. That was quickly made worse because, being in line with it, the second goal looked offside with the back post scorer. It was hard work to get to Oxford from where I live on trains etc. I really didn't need a pathetic second half performance on top. I feel the team / squad owes all those fans who went to Oxford a very good performance on Saturday. I know that is applying pressure, but they need to start well and stop giving away stupid goals from outside the box in particular.
I was there i couldn't believe it however Robinson reacted really slowly after Stone saved 1-0 there second goal was us being extremely weak think it was Forrester he slipped left us in a mess Smith positioning was terrible and Jones was flat footed 2-0 offside we wailed but too no avail .
Second half up until the unnecessary changes as we had gone very close twice through Jones and Harrison and Benning flashed one wide also we just needed one of them go in the changes 3/4 go in I go home thinking how as a team which in spells deserved goals maybe 4 at least managed lose 4-0 with the home side not exactly deserving of any goals nevermind 4 .
Why cause we were too soft .
Saturday it's time be hard we only have score 1 goal if players do the basics defend challenge block can we do it as we need too you do not give good sides leg up people will say things are going against us like Exeters first goal and the foul in the lead up to Oxfords 1st and 2nd goal but that's no excuse for players switching off as the quality in this league has shown that one switch off is fatal .
SW and Portsmouth and Ipswich spring to mind quickly between them they have had about 6 on target goal attempts resulting in 5 goals until we have better defensive displays we will have to try outscore teams as we don't to me have the backbone in certain players see games out that's not a observation that's a fact .

With Harrison out we need someone with presence to get in the opposition box. I fear we will go back to the situation where too many of our attackers are not doing that and we keep passing the ball round outside the opposition box and eventually when it is worked wide there are no bodies to cross for. I would start with Mipo and he's the man to get in the box asap. It's no use telling him to play target man in the way of Harrison because he can't do that well enough. But he is good in the air and he does have a knack of getting on to the end of rebounds. Politic hasn't shown much yet, albeit his starting opportunities have been limited. But just when I was thinking he wasn't contributing much he scored v Exeter. Butterworth also scored. So there are goals in the attackers just behind the main striker.

I think the front end of the team can be made effective for Saturday. But something radical needs to be done about defensive midfield, wingbacks, central defence and goalkeeping. We've conceded 7 goals in the last 3 games and shipping that many likely exceeds our attacking capacity to score goals. I'm not calling for any radical change in the team's formation of 3 centre halves, but a way needs to be found to make it all work more effectively whether with the same or different personnel.

Guess it will be the team that played (and won) at Cambridge then?

That was Massey’s best game for me (where he’s started) and he and Mipo as a front 2 definitely worried the Cambridge defence (perhaps not so difficult them being on the back of 4 straight defeats).  However I see Charlton as a much better team than Cambridge, on average, and I think Cambridge’s compact pitch helped us that day too - transition from back to front was much quicker without hoofball and a centre forward holding up the ball being required.  Vale might pick the same team but with this opposition and our pitch (dimensions-wise) we’ll need to see a big step up in performance from all the players to be looking to get the same result.

It's time to give McDermott another game in the 1st team. Looked head and shoulders above the rest in our recent FA youth cup wins. If he's good enough then he's old enough. Put him up front with Massey and Politic. Get the ball into their feet and see what magic can happen.

There is a certain Mr Claus. He has plenty of presence this time of year 😁
