Utterly disgraceful result, against the team with the worst away record in the fourth tier of English football. We have just ONE shot on target in 90+ minutes, and the players clearly couldn't have cared less whether we finished our home season on a losing note or not, for the umpteenth consecutive year. No wonder they were booed off - the team with the worst home record in the EFL L2.

 

This has put a big, big doubt in my mind about Askey's future as Vale manager next season. He deserves credit for keeping us up but I doubt whether he has the capability to do much better. His win ratio in the football league is very poor (something like 27%) and, for me, he lacks the steel to get decent, hard fought performances out of the players. Worryingly inconsistent - we simply won't get away with playing like this next season.

 

I wonder what Macclesfield's relegation rivals are thinking tonight? Whatever it is, at this rate, we will be joining them in a similar battle next season with these players and this manager. If Synectics take over, then we need a top manager, tried and tested in L1 and 2, and some real investment in a decent squad or we risk this over and over again until we finally go through the trap door. Hope they've done their planning.

 

And, please, don't anyone tell me we had nothing to play for because a few miles up the road Crewe, with nothing to play for, put four past promotion-chasing Forest Green.

Brown is THE only player who can walk away this season and say he's given his all.

 

If we released every player bar Brown, I genuinely wouldn't be fussed. Rebuild hopefully begins soon, with the news we are desperate for.
