Players in and out

Rampant Zebra

Davis is no world beater for sure. But he did not let us down last season. He's a just about competent squad cover player at this level. Barnett never looked up to it as a striker, not sharp enough. But looked good defensively in a game or two when we were under the cosh. He'd make a better CD for me. Where he played for the reserves.

Up to Aspin of course, but maybe if they don't go they could be usefull as squad players?

Barnett isn’t a work horse though in fairness he’s a striker and some just aren’t (remember the battering 27 goal a season Leon got!)

Davis wouldn’t be bad at centre half, personally if at the club they should train and be involved with the first team as selectable, even if not called up to the squad not sure I’m keen on them being outcast like that in all honesty.

On a side note appears Ben Whitfield is now a free agent according to a message he sent to unofficial Vale. He wasn’t always great after Xmas but he would be a great addition, he’s got the talent and with better supply from our better side this year would give us another option as we haven’t really got an explosive paced attacker like him. Wouldn’t be a bad option to have if we wanted a more adaptable squad.

It doesn't surprise me that Whitfield is available. He's nowhere near the levels required for professional football week in, week out. He could be in the future if he has a season or two in non league. He needs regular games for experience and to become more consistent. One good game in 20 with the very occasional flash of quality doesn't cut it!

Impact sub in L2 at best. Maybe someone will take a punt on him.

Spot on in my opinion. Would be a good one for the future like Turner but no better. Needs to be out on loan for a season.

You can't afford to have any player not working hard and chasing the opposition. Pope has no speed but he puts opposing defenders under pressure when we don't have the ball. Look at Barnett at Crewe when he just didn't bother and led to them breaking away to equalise.

Slightly off topic: This reminds of a joke where the manager said he was impressed with the way the new lad chased the ball all game and that next eek he was going to teach him to kick it.

The Whitfield situation is a bit odd as he was supposed to have signed a contract with Bournemouth in May. Not shocked if they've decided he's not good enough at the top level. He can be exciting going forward. His tracking back was questionable and doesn't offer enough support to the fullback. On balance I'd take him back. He'll definitely get fixed up somewhere and probably already has a good idea where he's off to.

Davis is poor man's Smith, although I think he could do a job with Smith if we played a back 3. I suspect he's on a good wage which is part of the reason we are so keen to offload him. Looks like he's here for the season.

Barnett won't be off to Nuneaton as they won't pay all his wage. The authorities wouldn't allow a move part funded by Vale for Barnett because there isn't really an argument about development with a player in his 30s.

If you watched vale last season Whitfield is not an impact league 2 sub at best with one good game in 20. Mad some fans on here. He’s inconsistent yes but much better than that.

One good game in 20 ? Must of played about 150 games for us then.

Wycombe home, Morecambe and Exeter away. Cheltenham and Chesterfield at home. They are just off the top of my head.

He got me off my seat, obviously he had plenty of poor games but then again was playing in the worst Vale team in my 45 years of watching them.

I am not condoning either his or his agents behaviour but think part of the criticism is down to that.

He is an exciting young player and would be welcomed back by me for one.

Maintain to this day had he not scored that peach against Chesterfield we would of gone down.

You are spot on Valiant 593 with what you say.

Oh ps Luton at home he was electric too.

He has potential, whether other clubs will pick him up, whether he is more realistic about his future now, whether Aspin has other options or would given him a second chance we shall see.

Yeah that’s what I was saying, don’t think I explained it that well haha. If he was available I’d sign him ASAP. He’s a very good league 2 player who will create chances and score goals as you say. Mad that someone has compared him and Turner.
