Back to the point of the thread The Sentinel website says we are tracking a winger and a striker today. Keeps the next 7 hours interesting. For me the biggest hole in the squad is on the left side where we are short of cover. Only really Montano and Conlon are left footed and Hannatt is two footed.

I feel like we could do with someone who can cover left back/centre half (like Knops would have done) and then maybe a winger - but that may be null if Kanu does well/Daniels comes back into it.

 

If I was being greedy I'd also like a back-up for Pope - a young lad from the non-league who can come in and learn from him (like Hugill) because, unfortunately, he's not going to be around forever.

Possibly more likely they will go on loan with their salary being shared with the clubs concerned.

I'd be happy to put towards crowdfunding to pay off Barnett. He's been a complete waste of time.

Still think Barnett could other something this season. He would probably benefit from playing alongside somebody like Miller who is prepared to do all the running.

You can't afford to have any player not working hard and chasing the opposition. Pope has no speed but he puts opposing defenders under pressure when we don't have the ball. Look at Barnett at Crewe when he just didn't bother and led to them breaking away to equalise.

You are right think that is their level. As mentioned above Barnett does not put a shift in , I have seen players run out of the tunnel faster. Also if he is not putting a shift in it sends a bad message to the rest of the team. Agreed Popey lacks pace but makes up for it with heart and the difference is he always puts a shift in.

Whilst I don't think he's the best I thought maybe a lower league 2/top non league side would have taken Davis. He's a good age and he's not awful at centre half - but we never played him there. Alongside a bruiser he'd probably form a good partnership for someone - although I'm not calling for him to be part of the squad.

 

Barnett is interesting 2 non-league north sides and one of which is probably Nuneaton. That's what you get when you're lazy and aren't prepared to put in a shift. Your former record of goals in the league goes out the window. One good game I saw from him against Exeter which showed what he could do when he could be bothered.

I honestly feel Davis has been hard done by.

 

He's no world beater but played decently in League 1, and was snapped up by a Premier League side.

 

He was played at RB last season, a position which he never looked comfortable in. He's still only 24, I don't think its worth throwing the towel in on a player which is, at worse, an average League 2 centre half.

Davis was probably hung out to dry a bit at full back, and arguably thats down to the manager playing him out of position. He can't be accused of not giving 100% wherever he played, but he was never going to be the answer at centre half for us either. I don't think him and Smith would have worked together.

 

Barnet on the other was brought on in games to add some energy and physical presence. The amount of times he came on and looked like he'd already played 70 minutes was unreal. Seemingly no effort in him whatsoever.

 

But the level of both their perfromances last season is probably a big reason why no ones come in for them.
