Just sums up the plebs who post on here. 1 minute you’re only happy if we sign a top striker and only £100-150k is acceptable then next we are signing Louis Dodds on loan and it’s like Pele has decided to sign. Enjoy happy clapping away as he sits on the bench from December onwards. He’s a good servant though you know, who wants a decent player when you can have a decent servant eh?

Dodds or Whitfield....No brainer. Whitfield is a far better player with more speed, energy and youth on his side. If he would have continued to play just behind Pope last season as opposed to being pushed out wide when Hannant arrived I think he would have been far more successful. Even on his bad games he was still better than 3/4 of the other players.

And Whitfield went missing for the majority of his games too. Maybe thats what you have to accept from some players in that role, they can do something great one minute and then disappear out of the game for the next 20 minutes.

And where did Whitfield end up.....on the bench for pretty much the second half of the season

True. I guess if players in league two who were playing a sort of number ten role, (like Whitfield and Dodds for example), were involved in the game for 90 minutes, having an impact with regular goals and assists then they would be playing higher up the leagues.

It’s not it’s because players who often become number 10s don’t have the attributes to be a Striker or a Centre Midfielder. Whitfield and Dodds are both slightly built and have no physical presence at all. Both get lost when it becomes a physical battle. Their crossing/ delivery isn’t much to talk about and their passing very average. However Whitfield has the pace to turn defences back toward their own goal and run in behind. Dodds has a decent shot on him but that’s not enough to accommodate a player or build a system to suit them. Hence after 10-15 games of the season and they have delivered 1-2 goals and likely 1 assist managers decide its time to put someone in who offers more. Every club Dodds has been at its happened exactly the same. Whitfield’s pace may well mean he gets games elsewhere. Neither are worth signing with the way Aspin plays

Wrong again.

No one is doing cartwheels thinking Dodds is the missing link and will drive us towards promotion. What we are saying is that he is cheap, would be a squad player, fills a backup role and given the budget set my Norman, who refuses to spend the money to get us the 150k striker, is someone who could represent value.

All we are saying is that YOUR reaction of tugging on your testicles and hysterically crying like someone just stole your favourite toy because you don’t want him back is really really weird!

Rubbish plenty on here happy to have him back, a good few have spent every transfer window throwing his name in the hat since he left

League two is a physical battle and a grind. Those kind of players may well prosper higher up where players get a bit more time on the ball. But players like those are essential to any squad as it gives managers a different option instead of the same old, even if it is coming off the bench or starting the game with them before changing things up.

Once again you are talking hogwash.2008-9 10 goal, 2009-10 7 goals, 2010-12 15 goal, 2012-13 7 goals and in his final season 2013-14 4 goals. So all in all far better than you are making it out to be.

2010-12?15 goals?.Correct, but over 2 seasons.Dodds has never got double figures in league goals for Port Vale in any one season.

I can’t imagine Dodds is a Neil Aspin type of player.

The only thing he would improve is the laundry bill as he never gets his shorts dirty. He would only add to the geriatrics like Tonge and Pugh. There is no room for players like Dodds as he is in decline and is not going to improve. There is no prospect of selling him on for mega bucks and far better players out there who will improve the squad.

Re: Oswell

Currently semi pro at Stockport but also has a very good career outside of football. He is weighing up offers to go full time but it would have to make financial sense for him to give up his day job.

Apparently he has indicated to Chester he wants to go full time.
