Signing Dodds will really help season ticket sales before the end of the early bird prices next week.

Who would want to waste their money knowing that the best player we can sign is Louis Dodds.

There are far better players that are available who may have more sell on value.AJ Leitch Smith is still looking for a club and would be a far better prospect.

I have to be honest and say that most players at our level are hardly well known, its not like we're signing Ronaldo who would automatically boost sales.

“Wanting him back” does not, and never has equates to thinking he will bang in 20 goals and be the driving force to promotion.

He would be an ok squad player... squads need players.

I myself am not overwhelmed by the idea... You on the other side seem weirdly allergic to the bloke. You are not just disappointed (an emotion I would understand) but seem ready to give up on life. That’s what I’m objecting to.

You might want to just relax and get a bit of perspective. The sight of you red faced, leaning over the advertising hoarding angrily pointing and screaming vitriol at Doddsy as he warmed up would not be becoming my friend. And it would make you look a little bit of a numpty.

We need players who can play in the first team not squad players to make up the numbers.Dodds would be a waste of the budget which could be used towards signing a better player.

Is Dodds on your (s)hitlist along with Davis and Barnet?

I agree 100%, it won’t attract people getting a season ticket, we need better! I don’t like going back to old players, fair enough Pope did well, but don’t want Dodds back.

You kept banging on about "Baldrick" Brown but guess what? Aspin is having exactly the same problems getting players through the door.

It's remarkable really, the amount of culpable staff who've passed through the football club. If only there was a common denominator who's been here all the while?

Daniels and Rawlinson probably fall in to that bracket too.

Yes i get what you are saying. However Daniels is on a 6 month and Rawlinson a year.

I probably didn't word it brilliantly, what i was trying to say more or less was that Oswell on the radar is being chased by Wrexham, Hartlepool and a Chester side who nearly went bump and are now in Stockport division themselves.

We aren't competing with Notts County, Bury or Bradford. So surely he is a big gamble, we have enough of those types now?

Purely my opinion and he may be a great player. But for me a journeyman who can complement Pope with double figures ticks the boxes. When you consider the donkey Bowery at Crewe got 12 goals last season there are players out there.

After last year relying solely on Pope and a few from Montano i am really hoping a few more step up to the plate.

Worrall for example ought to be a 6 goals plus player and i think Hannant has the capability to notch a few from midfield. Daniels is an unknown quantity but may get a few depending on game time.

A lot more have to contribute because Pope carried that burden almost single handedly and played whilst injured.

A steady eddy who gets 10 will do me just fine as a foil for Pope.

Think i have put this up before so apologies if i have but i know it's 5 years ago but this was 12/13 season stats where they all complemented Pope.

Not many clubs are lucky to have say Hylton/Collins partnership guaranteeing 35 goals so it is a team effort

Pope 31

Hughes 10

JMW 9

Williamson, Dodds 7

Chilvers, Morsy, Purse and Ryan ' Ronaldo ' Burge all got 2

Twaddle- Aspin has signed some good players in brown, Legge and Hannant and also some potential in the lad of TNS and aldershot. brown brought in players who were spent forces and his mates. Completely different and highlight nothing. The time to worry about scraping the barrel is 4th August not now. Dodds is beyond all that and stinks of someone wanting to rekindle old glories, wouldn’t put it past pope to be pushing for a reunion with his old pal. If so pretty disappointing rudge and Aspin can be pursuaded given Aspin said no a few months backs.

Its concerning that Dodds has gone from not being on Aspo's wishlist earlier in the summer (https://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/neil-aspin-responds-speculation-linking-1596250), to us being interested now.

How many forwards have we missed out on if we're going for him? Is the Waters deal dead?

As stated, I wouldn't be unhappy with Dodds. It just worries me we're not going to get the FL-proven striker Aspo stated we needed.

Hi all,

Not been on here much but to answer a request from Jacko. I have seen an email from Jean which (as far as I can see) is genuine and confirms that Louis Dodds left of his own volition. I would accept it as showing that Dodds left voluntarily and wasn't force out.

Thanks,

Rob

No possibility he maybe be making the best of a bad situation? Easily possible he had no offer at all and or a low one and wanted to make out he was leaving of his own accord? Anyone can resign when faced with the inevitable and this could easily be the same?

I'm kind of with you but is it that suprising?

From the outside we are a team that just about scraped safety last season.

Just saying "we will be better this season" isn't going to convince everyone to sign even if we are all eternal optimists.

I suspect a fair few have rejected us and we just have to hope that who we eventually end up with helps us.

I remember reading in Jeff Kent's book on the promotion in 1989 that Ron Futcher was about the eighth choice striker (they tried bids for Imre Varadi, Andy Jones (club record bid), John Pearson, Wayne Biggins before Futcher) and Futch turned out to actually be the key signing that season.

I fall into the "Dodds brings something" camp and if he can rekindle that partnership with Pope from around 2012-13 then it may just be that having to go for our third or fourth choice target didn't turn out too bad after all...

No in my honest opinion no. He emailed to say he was leaving. To me that simply indicates he wanted to leave (and wasn't pushed out). But I'm no mind reader so all I can go on is what I saw he wrote.

EDIT: I have just re-read. According to what I have seen, he wasn't offered reduced terms and so he wasn't forced out with a reduced offer / no offer. He was offered the same deal for another year and simply turned it down.
