The only insight most of us have is the warm up which is the same for every game. Can't see much wrong with that. But it is difficult to separate the two dimensions of our goalkeepers not having as much ability as we wish for from coaching is failing to develop the ability we wish for.

Goalkeeping coaching is a 'funny' thing. The Liverpool goalkeeping coach, since 2011, is John Achterberg, former Tranmere goalkeeper. I have seen him play plenty, and at L1 level he today probably would be the best goalkeeper in the league.

The last few years he has been coaching Alisson Becker, a massive success, and one of the best in the world. But he was one of the best in the world at Roma as well and a great signing. Before that he was coaching Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet.

Karius was a signing not made by John Achterberg? I never thought he was a decent keeper. I argue he cost Liverpool a Champions League final and further argue, in his current role as third choice keeper at Newcastle, he put the League Cup final beyond them with the second he let in on Sunday. Mignnolet was not regarded as good enough, but he was a genuine PL level keeper as his subsequent career has shown. Achterberg got shed loads of criticism for these two fairly or unfairly and living in Merseyside it was possible to see and hear this.

So my point is whether Carlo Nash has inherited the keepers or caused signings / retention personally?

Ok Warren, I’m convinced.  We’ll go with Nash in sticks over Stevens and Stone. 👍🏻

You would have thought that Carlo Nash would have a big say on the keepers and which keeper we should go for in the summer

I think this depends. First of all is he an outward looking coach that has good info on relevant keepers that could be signed. Secondly, let's assume he isn't that broad, but could have had a review of the narrowed down choices. Thirdly, did he have little input at all because management acted urgently or ignorantly without consultation.

The thing that concerns me is that last season management got goalkeeping wrong - we had a nutcase followed by a beanpole before settling back on Stones who got us there (with one close call in the final). So we ain't got form in getting keeper imports correct during the current regime.

He’s 49 years old.

Yes that's a bit past it. Shilton was England's keeper at 40 and I thought when we went to pens in 1990 a younger keeper should have been brought on to provide faster reactions. I'm claiming to be right on that one!

John Burridge - must still be playing somewhere

From WiKi

John Burridge (born 3 December 1951), nicknamed Budgie, is an English former goalkeeper who is now working with Indian Super League club Kerala Blasters as their goalkeeping consultant and senior goalkeeping coach for their goalkeeping academy. In his senior career he played for 29 clubs, 18 of them in the Football League, in a career that lasted nearly 30 years. Overall, Burridge played 768 league games in the English and Scottish leagues, and several more at non-league level

He's pretty inspirational.

Hope posters aren't expecting a easy win on Saturday.

That last minute equaliser tonight will have given them a big lift and they know they have already been too good for us once this season.

They have good players and tonight they had 67% possession and more shots on goal.

A defeat on Saturday is not inconceivable on present form.

They were battered first half by sounds of it. We should win if we perform but crucial that we don’t underestimate them.

In the game at theirs they were arguably the worst side we’ve faced so far but we wasted a lot of chances that night and as usual switched off for a long ranger and a free kick.
