Match Thread: Port Vale v Barnsley

We're desperate for a win and a decent performance. Barnsley will be tough and I see them as one of the better sides in the league. Things have suddenly become a bit doom and gloom of late all of a sudden. A poor January window on top of a shocking pitch and some questionable team selections takes it's toll. But over the coming weeks we would suddenly have a front line where we can pick from Wilson, Harrison, Taylor and Proctor, and that should make a world of difference.  If we see something like the below, which I believe would be our best possible 11 in a positive formation, I think we would soon start winning games of football once again.

                         Stevens

                Cass   Smith   Jones

Worrall                                   Robinson

                  Conlon        Ojo

                         Garrity

               Harrison      Wilson

Subs: Stone, Forrester, Benning, Pett, Politic, Taylor, Proctor

That's a really decent 11, with everyone playing in their strongest positions, and a more than decent looking bench.

That's tripe. We took 600 odd in September and get way less gates.

I'd agree I expected 1000 from them but as mentioned I get the impression there's some apathy with how the club is being run despite them being in the playoffs? But as a % of home fans and only 60 miles disappointing.

I remember them bringing 2-2.5k once on a Saturday in League One the season when McPhee scored a load and we finished 7th I think? We'd both had a good start top of the table clash fairly early on, sure Littlejohn scored near the end(good game from what I remember).

Remember that we went 1-0 down early, was a hot day (August/September) and it was a top 2 battle.

Recall Lipa scored and was immense that day but never hit those heights with us that we expected, sure Littlejohn did get one to seal a 3-1 win.

I would swap Conlon for Garrity, Wilson where you have Garrity, and Taylor next to Harrison. If only..... then the alarm clock went off and I woke up and realised it was a dream.

Not sure it's fair to be too critical in the current financial climate for many people. With Barnsley's regular spells in the Championship no-one can blame them for being underwhelmed with the prospect of a Tuesday night in Burslem, particularly when they're not in the picture for automatic promotion.

Throw in the fact you can stay home in the warmth and watch it for a tenner, I'd say 600 is more than decent.

Agree, Barnsley is a 'Big' game for us, Vale is not a 'Big' game for them

I don’t actually think many will see it as a “Big” game for us in the sense of them being a “Big” team, if that’s what you mean, not when you’ve got the likes of the Owls, Rams and Tractor Boys in this league.  In terms of needing the points then they won’t want to lose any more than we do.  It’s the same 3 points on offer.

Lipa was outstanding in that game, thought we'd signed a real player ... then the weather got cold and he missed the Mediterranean sunshine 😭

Only a big game in the context of our run of form. We are 2 points from 18. And with 4 games in next 10 days could easily be looking at 10 without a win unless we get our act together.

As a standard 46 match run of the mill game it's pretty mundane and certainly that applies to them. Tonight is Big though. Rot has to be stopped.
