Yes but he also identified he was not a number 1 halfway through season.

Point is he can’t even be trusted to be our No.2 which is why he’s on loan.

So after all they do to make sure they are thr right fit, it takes 6 months find out they aren't. So why all this waiting now to sign a striker or two?

2 reasons.

1/ loans - we need to improve won’t be available until after squads have been assessed and finalised.

2/ money - we aren’t prepared to pay the big bucks players have been  asking for.

It will come going take time. It’s the new world we live in. No longer a big club in the division.

Something  we need to get used.

He was being a massive **** with the Vale as soon as he heard about Reading’s interest in him.
He pretended to be injured, the club were sceptical but paid for him to get a scan which proved there was nothing wrong with him. In the end he was messing everyone around so much they told him he could leave.
How do you know this?

A bit of insight from Clive Clarke on P and G last night.Vale have been giving presentations at Premier clubs trying to attract players from these clubs. He named Southampton (Thierry Small)and Tottenham. He says we have a competitive budget if you exclude Derby,Sheff Weds,Portsmouth etc.Somewhere in mid to lower half but much more than some.He suggests we will be fine and a lot of good work is going on at the club.He did say that Gibbo was offered a poor contract. He also said we should not have let Wilson go.Must have got player mixed up.

I think he got mixed up as it was gibbo and Taylor that they were on about. He was also talking about being careful in getting inexperienced players too, I’m assuming he meant premier league u23 kids who haven’t played league football yet.

I don't want to decry the potential in the team yesterday and it should be given a chance. But Massey at wingback and Wilson in attack is a much stronger side and I assert would have been likely to win at Exeter not lose 4-0. Accept of course that wasn't possible but points to us not being far away from a strong side.

Reflecting on the side chosen, which before kick off I thought was vulnerable, I don't think much could have been done to change it without ditching the formation? Well maybe it could with Cass to wingback and a replacement central defender of which we have a good and broadly equal selection. Need a response in the next two games.

Its clear to me that we aren't now chasing free agents and its offers on the table we are now involved in and maybe a couple of loans from higher,if this is the case then as DC said there isn't much we can do apart from wait for the clubs these offers are with.

The words eggs and basket spring to mind.

If we are after Simpson and let’s say McKirdy forces his move out of Swindon, we could end up getting outbid quite easily. Especially if he ends up being a makeweight in a player plus cash deal.

Would any club want to take him on?

Can Chesterfield send him back?

Caveat emptor hopefully until Jan. Despite absolutely everything it's in both club's interests he is successful. Chesterfield can't be set up to not have him as their number 1. So they will want to make it work much like Port Vale did. But he'll be targeted now. Targeted for coming off his line as he does creating situations where he can get sent off and targeted at every set piece and sledged at every opportunity.
