Lowery was not the signing we needed. Rory Holden will be that player for us.

Still need 2 strikers. I think there is a bid on the table and a club holding out to see if they can get a better offer.

I’d agree with that, to me unless someone else was leaving bringing in Lowery just seemed too much of a luxury type signing.

1. Don't think we were in for Lowery. Certainly, not when we signed Holden, who, as long as he stays fit, could be a good/great signing for us. Both in terms of the player and the business side.

2. Joey Barton. Don't know how many Bristol Rovers players he inherited from the previous manager, how many changes he made to the squad when he came in or what the composition of the squad was in terms of permanent signings/loanees? But if he is clearing the decks, then surely whatever happens with Bristol Rovers, it's down to his management. Whether it be a good or bad outcome? Hopefully, relegation!!!

I think the PFA are still pursuing legal action against the squad limits.

This is interesting. The squad size limitation comes from the rules for entering the competition. They are formed by way of the PL or EFL which are outside organisations in the context of the clubs / businesses that give players employment. Aside from that there is no limitation on any club employing as many players as it's owners / management want. They also have complete discretion aside from they can't compete if they don't have enough. There are still reasons to do that because a club may not be able to move on an unwanted player under contract, or they want to give development opportunity to a player or, like Chelsea did under the oligarch, they run a business by way of loaning out lots of players for fees.

Hence I can't see where the PFA can bring a legal action linked to civil / employment law. The PL and EFL are not breaching any employment laws but just setting rules for the competitions they run.

Then they'll have to go after FIFA and UEFA as well. There's a limit on WC and EC squads, as well as a max eligible player squad for all European competitions as well: Champions League, Euro League, Conference League. Clubs can have 500 players in their squads, but only register 25 to play.

He's left it rather late to start clearing the decks, after the season has started!  And we worry the Vale might struggle to recruit, but JB says he wants to sign 8.  Not a good sign for BR Fans, but good news for the rest of us.

Puts Vale's situation in context too.

By comparison, we're in a much better place.

A word of caution though.

Swindon were in chaos this time last season.

Look what happened to them 🤣

Are we? Bristol have about 25 fit players including more than one striker and several goalkeepers

Yes, I understood that.  I was wondering if squad size, 25, still applied in L1?  If so, that would be another controlling factor, as is finance.

Yes - you're right. I should have thought a bit more before posting and simply said: if there's a top 7 clubs in Lge i who can afford those top wages, and they each sign 5 strikers then there's 35 players gone from the "pool" available, and the rest are not going to get those top salaries?
