Match Thread: Forest Green R v Port Vale

Worldie strike out of the blue was the difference between the two teams, Vale battled well, draw was a fairer result.

Vale have got to bring in a quality striker, a creative midfield player and a center back in. Signing and bringing on a young guy who's only played non-league football (no matter what his potential) is not the answer in Vale's current situation.

Greed! Smurf needes to get his sweetie jar out for a couple of better quality players or we'll remain in the bottom half of L2.

Been done by a wonder strike according to reports.

Do not get same support from the owner????

The transfer window has only been open a week and we just got Ben Whitfield till end of season.

There is still time for more signings. But as it stands we have one experienced player (Gunning) out and one prising but inexperienced player in. FGR signed a very proven and worthwhile scorer in Reid, plus Gunning and several others already, a strong statement of intent.

As I say, still time.... but watch closely.

Lose to a wonder goal .

Gunning going has bad implication for Vale he was beginning look the real deal at centre half .

No positives at recent Vale game the said the stoke score no one cheered so them losing makes no difference whatsoever .

Very disappointed in them but looks to me like Forest Green deserved it so well done them .

Goals win games no goals in 2 games and 3 attempts on target in 2 games .

Solid but have gone backwards since Luton win where we played very well .

Why are people surprised? They have mad a few good signings this week and on paper looked every bit as strong as us.

The performance from us was well below recent standards and it's how we bounce back at home next week that now matters.

We can expect another really tough game against Yeovil next week who have just signed two loan PL players and another from the Championship.

Gunning is already missed, he already looked solid and determined. No idea why Forrester never got a look in with the new guy Dior, ominously already looking a bit out of his depth in league football.

Overall this game demonstrated once again why Smurf needs to leave. He makes our squad look cheap even next to the FGR one. I can’t believe people thought he should be forgiven after Luton!

All games are tough in this league as there's little between any of the sides on their day, what we need is a good reaction to a poor performance. Inconsistency is one of the big issues with any lower division side, it has a lot to do with why the players are in the lower reaches.

We missed Anderson today. Both sides were physical and Joe Davis couldn’t cope at all, he looks like more of a right back than a centre back.

I honestly don’t know what Tonge brings to the side so personally would have taken him off today rather than Kay. Our central midfield was hassled and hassled and hassled today right til the end. We missed Whitfield when he went off with what I assume was a knock?

Lack of quality in the final third. No runs beyond, poor crosses that were easy for their centre backs.

Don’t get me wrong - I’ve seen worse but FGR did exactly what they needed to today. Nicked a goal then sat back.

We need much more defensive cover and I hate to say it, but Gunning had a good game.

We sure can. They will be full of confidence after today's FA Cup win over Bradford - a clean sheet and two past one of League One's best sides - and a possible plum draw in the next round. It sounds like they've had a good window so far and this will only add to their confidence. For our part, we should be itching to put six past them after our three meetings so far this season and, in footballing terms, nothing would please me more. So, yea, it will be a tough game.

The lad has not played in the league till today, so needs to be given a chance. Rudge and Aspin must see something in him. Give him a chance.

There were other Vale players who looked out of their depth today and they have league experience.

We aren't going to win them all no team can but we are out of the drop zone and FGR (think us a few weeks ago) are trying to do the same, bottom of the league(think us a few weeks ago)so good luck to them. Our second half of the season will be win some lose a few but we should survive without the mythical sweetie jar.
