I know it was only lowly Kidsgrove, it was the first game of the pre-season and I accept their team may be weaker or stronger than the one we played last year but last year we struggles to beat them 2-1 this year we've beat them alot to 0, I consider that positive and this year we are playing a league lower.

 

Thank whoever the days of Bruno, Reggie, Mbamba, Mackintosh, Tavares etc etc are over.

I'll be surprised if we see him again then if he was that bad. Only leaves us with Gibbons at right back though at the moment.

Good that we have a few trialists to look at and not rushing to sign anything and anyone.

 

I'd hope we can get Green signed and the Huddersfield lad on a seasons long loan might be a very good signing especially if we can get a full pre season with us.

 

See at Newcastle who has made the cut for a second look at least and be interesting to see.

 

Are we assuming now that Eagles, Bikey and Taylor are dead in the water now then?

 

I said a while ago that i thought we needed another decent winger in and then a young pacy back up winger,i didn't see the game yesterday(should be going Tuesday though) but maybe Green is one and Whitehouse could be the other,those who went how did these two play?

I called it last season and am doing so again - I believe that De Freitas will be a key player for us this season now that he's had the time to properly bed in to the way of things over here. He needs to add a few goals to his game and I believe he will.

Interesting to hear different opinions, I thought De Freitas was one of the worst players in our squad yesterday. Did a nice Gallic shrug though when he lost the ball on a run forward.

I wasn't there so can't really comment on the game/performance although, for once, it was good to see us score a few goals.

My concern generally remains a lack of goals from midfield and currently we don't appear to have a couple of lads in the team who can address that.

We were all hoping that Eagles would sign and replicate Dodds' goal output but it doesn't seem likely now and it must be a worry still.

As long as he's looked after it's definitely an obvious observation, you can tell he has real quality.

I really don't see the obsession with Eagles. Most of the time he was poor, average at best and most of the hype was due to the goal he scored at Walsall. Let's move on and sign Whitehouse instead.

That's hardly a glowing endorsement thought is it. I'd much prefer we sign young talent who wants to sign for the club right now, not when all other options have failed.

I think there Brown is going about this the right way. He is signing players who have experience who have played at higher levels in most cases, allowing young players to come up from the youth squad, trying to retain the players worth retaining from last year and getting the squad better drilled and fitter. So lets give him a chance.
