Port Vale deadline day discussion

I posted on here about a month ago that Grant was going to Peterboro. If I knew, surely Vale knew. The signing of Danny Pugh (Browny's old mate)leads me to the conclusion that we hadn't spent the past month planning for Grant's departure, instead bringing in a favour from an old mate at the 11th hour.

I also understand that Grant and Alnwick have the same agent. The way Vale dealt with the negotiations of Alnwick left a sour taste in the mouth, making the agent even more determined to push through the Grant deal. Why can't we build relationships in the football world, rather than isolate ourselves and end up in a situation where nobody (except foreign agents and Browny's mates) wants to deal with us?

Well Peterborough was always a good guess considering they came in for him earlier in the season.

In a way you reap what you sow. Agents are just an easy way out for the blame. If other clubs are willing to pay the going rate, (ie; more money than you're on), and the club you're at have a recent history of reducing contracts come renewal time, and on top of that things seem to be in turmoil behind the scenes with whats happened over the last year or so - then its no wonder players have moved on from us.

Both transfers are a no brainer, Rangers is too big a club for any Vale player to turn down, whilst at nearly 30 its no wonder Grant has moved for what I can only assume to be more money and also closer to home.

Well I'm at a loss to understand Plan B. We started the season gambling on young inexperienced foreigners in the main and have finished with young inexperienced English based players. I thought Plan B was to bring in old heads ?????

I can only assume we didn't get our targets or tried to get them on the cheap (but who knows). That's the problem with leaving signings until the 11th hour. I suppose Pugh can play left back which if were desperate (and we might be) the Rochdale lad can allegedly play centre half. The defence worries me and looking at who we signed were going for the Kevin Keegan approach, we'll score more than you !!! I hope MB hasn't hung up his boots yet as we might just need him.

The winner in this is of course Smurf at least 270,000 to the good and the wage bill should be smaller. TBH I was starting to think he was going to be good for the club but it appears what comes out of his mouth needs a toilet roll and like the last owners is in it for himself.

God I hope we survive.

Not sure what Pugh offers other than experience, but if ultimately he's in just as an extra body and to help all the youngsters we have then fair enough. Ideally we would have signed a keeper with experience but I'm sure Browny did everything he could to make that happen.

Could Pugh play Grants role and sit in front of the back four? We seriously lack experience and leadership qualities so maybe that's why he was drafted in at the last minute.

What concerns me is the business that Swindon have done who are currently below us. Adjose in aswell as Rohan Ince a defensive mid from Brighton. Would have loved to have signed those two.

Shambles again. But I expected nothing less from us.

We take £270-350k in fees and not a penny gets reinvested back into the squad. This money will now vanish into the abyss. It needed to be used to sign 2-3 good players on a permanent deal.

We are in a complete mess right now. Relegation is a HUGE possibility.

Im guessing we had targets who for whatever reason wouldn't come. Pugh is a strange signing but I'll reserve judgement. Don't see a problem signing the goalkeeper from Celtic he may be excellent. An experienced centre half would have been good but its not to be and have some faith in MB to do whats right.

All this about us having £300k in the bank is rubbish, if Rangers are anything to go by it'll be a couple of years until we get paid in full.

Pre window I was relatively confident we'd be in no danger of the drop with a couple of key signings.

Post window I'm darting for the fixture list looking where we might get our required points....

Suspect defence been rescued repeatedly by the keeper. He's gone.

Full backs often left wanting and if either of Smith/Streete are out the whole deck collapses.

We've signed a keeper from Celtic's development squad

No centre half's

A lg2 34 year old has been

And some young inexperienced midfielders.

I'm worried. How many points will we need and how many do we think we'll get.....
