Back to Inniss... fourteen weeks in jail for an assault in a bar apparently.

I can't imagine Southend are very pleased that they got him on loan and then he's going to miss the first three months of the loan spell:

Maybe we knew, and thats why we didn't go in for him this time. Do you think he is worth pursuing again?

Is it me, or do Vale seem to employ quite a few players who have been in trouble with the police? Or do most footballers get into trouble at some point?

I'm sure there are others!

We had a Jamaican player for a short period who was later caught with a suitcase of cocaine at Heathrow .... his name escapes me at the moment.

If he was sentenced to 14 weeks, he will serve 7. That means he will be out of custody and living a normal life before the end of October. It is relatively easy for a young man with a few beers inside him to get involved in an altercation. In the past this was unlikely to lead to a prison sentence. There are people of my generation who did the same and nothing happened. We should not therefore be quick to condemn him. He was age 20 when the event occurred.

I suspect that Southend knew of the impending court appearance, but because they wanted a season long loan I wonder if they had to complete it before the transfer deadline and hope that he did not get custody. So they took a punt and it did not work out for them. Maybe they will simply keep his registration and he returns to them next month after his little break.

A sentence of this length simply clogs up the already overcrowded prison system and will make no impact on rehabilitation. All it will do is embitter a lot of people. Surely a community sentence, where he has to pay something back would not be too difficult to arrange for a professional footballer with the cooperation of his club and the PFA.

Work needs to be done here by the PFA, their members are vulnerable.

Of course I do not know full details of the case but on the face of it this is a classic example of our system not working to support prisons supervise those who really need it.

pleaded guilty to assault got 14 weeks inside, a meir nothing jacko, norman will get him for pence when southend give him the boot.

Surprised he didn't dislocate his shoulder throwing punches. Must have used his feet. That could have been us in their position now.

Does anyone remember Tommy Widdrington getting done for driving under the influence when he hit a lampost in Hanley? If I remember correctly he tried to claim he hadn't been driving despite being covered in the powder off the driver side airbag!

Richard Duffy before his Vale days also served a drink drive ban. Handy as we are light in defence in the lags XI
