Haven't been looking forward to it at all but that will hopefully change once it's underway. But the country it's been played in, the kick-off times, the shocking humidity and also a lot of players missing through injury make it very difficult to get excited for. But at least we won't have the excuse this time of our players been burnt out at the end of a gruelling Premier League season.

If the right 11 is picked in the right formation, we have the players to do well. But it will just be more of the same under Southgate as it's always been. Cautious and more concerned about what the opponents can do rather than focus on what we should be able to do well. I expect we'll make hard work of the group, perhaps winning one and drawing the other two games and crawling through.

Glad Maddison is going as he's our most in-form player. Also pleased to see Wilson picked as he's our best striker after Kane as long as he's fit. But it's shocking to see Phillips (has barely kicked a ball for months) and Eric Dier taken, the latter who has been woeful for Spurs in the last few weeks.

Everytime I see anything to do with it I have an "oh yeah, the WC" moment.

It's a joke that it's being held where it is.  Even aside from the human rights issues (they're not the only ones as someone's already said) it's hardly a real country with any identity anyway is it? It's almost a made up place.

Zero football history.

Probably zero football interest at all beyond real, Barcelona and man United.

Maybe I'll find myself getting drawn in when it kicks off?

At the moment I'm completely unenthusiastic.

Maddison is going because he's close to top of the PL goals and assists in 2022. Meanwhile Grealish has poor numbers considering he plays for a PL winning team. He's a player who seems to dribble round in circles and produce very little. There are a lot of proven England players in the last WC and last EC who are competing for the same left side position on the pitch. Why is he going?

Extremely worried about Maguire. He had a good relationship with Stones in previous competitions and has experience. But his form is atrocious. He gives the ball away, he looks slow, he is caught in the wrong body shape regularly and worst of all he rushes forward front on into no mans land and leaves the forward an acre of open space behind. I think he is going to get picked and get us knocked out of the tournament. I hope I'm wrong.

But in an attacking sense we have a good side and if the defence can shape up then we have a good chance of doing well.

I have thought about the ethics of watching the tournament in Qatar. I am satisfied that England are likely to protest the key moral issues. So I will watch it. A decisive factor is that most FAs around the world are small and have low levels of funding / resource. They depend on FIFA which depends on the World Cup to give them most of their funding. Hence the World Cup is critical to funding opportunity for players around the world.
