Looks like Kane could be booked for wearing the one love armband. Van dijk has said he wants to wear it but he also doesn’t like playing on a yellow card. Priorities eh.

Can't argue with that win. Iran are a perfectly decent side (recently beat Uruguay and drew to Mane's Senegal) but were made to look quite awful. Thought some of our attacking play was a joy to watch. Bellingham and Saka were outstanding. Nice to see us score goals too without relying on Harry Kane for them. We are bang average at the back but we might as well concentrate on our strengths as a team instead of going back to 5-2-2-1 the moment we play a good side. We have the players to outscore anyone on our day, be it France, Brazil, Argentina etc. When you can bring on the likes of Foden, Rashford and Grealish, you have a great chance.

The officiating and atmosphere have been woeful so far though.

The penalty Iran got was a complete joke when compared to the assault on Maguire in the first half.

Seemed to be a sympathy decision for a Middle Eastern country to try and make the score-line seem a little more respectable. How the ref can even come to the conclusion that it was a penalty after watching the replay from the sidelines... If that's a penalty then you're going to get 5 or 6 penalties every game if you're being consistent. Shocking.

Even without the comparison, it was never a penalty in a million years.

Ref was never giving it.

Nobody in the stadium thought it was a pen.

But as soon as someone gets in the refs ear and says "have a look at this" it's automatically in their head that they've got it wrong.

If its got any place at all in the game it should be an aid to be used at the refs request when he feels he's not had a good view of incident and potentially missed something.

Imagine going out in a knockout game to that penalty decision today.

It's just plain wrong.

The penalty decision was made by VAR because it was a goalscoring opportunity. That's why VAR got involved. I don't agree with the decision on balance because all such incidents should be punished then. The Maguire incident wasn't a direct goalscoring opportunity to some minds but was to others. It was to mine. 

While we are at it I thought Maguire is still a massive liability at the back on the deck. He was lucky not to get done on one occasion second half and a better team will do him again and again.

If that’s their explanation then it’s completely irrelevant. If it’s a foul it’s a penalty goalscoring opportunity or not. Does that mean if a player is fouled in the box when moving away from goal then it’s not a pen?  Total garbage.
