Match Thread: Stevenage v Port Vale

I'm going. I want to see Conlon warming up in a yellow training top when I walk out into the stand. I totally understand Clarke's SOP of keeping injuries under wraps and not giving the next opposition manager any clues on line up/shape but for fans it is a little frustrating to be kept in the dark.

These got battered by Bradford last night and will be looking for a reaction. They play 4-2-2-2 so we have got to have more numbers in CM to control the space, and dramatically overwhelm out wide with Rodney/Amoo/Worrall/possibly Politic briefly at the end considering DCs comments on him last night.

Not sure on 442/433 for this one.

I think we just have to GO FOR IT .

Conlons back I believe so for creativity and goals he as to come back in .

Not the easiest game by any stretch Stevenage will be up for it make no mistake about it .

Team well you could pick the same team week in week out but if you have no star quality in the side your never going score, also setting the team up be solid but unspectacular is all well and good early in the season however fans pay see goals and personally on what I've seen with my own eyes Vale are not far away from not just scoring but regularly netting 2 to 3 each game which is required if we want better than mid table to lower end  mediocrity as the usual fare we served up .

So I'm the manager this week I'm looking at combinations to make us a better side I want see fluidity the ball never over knee height so I'm looking at where we can hurt the opposition not just through sheer hard work you need be more canny than that .

So I'd be looking at the 3 last home games and I'd be summarising what we did well and what we did poorly then I'd be implementing the changes so that we are not just a robust solid side but a brave GO FOR IT team where we trust a 4 at the  back because we are so good when in possession of the ball that we are concentrating on scoring and not just the defending where at times our recovery runs have not being good but we managed get away with not conceding luckily on occasions v Tranmere and last night .

So with that in mind here's my team feel free to disagree which no doubt you will .

            Covalan

Cass  Legge Jones Benning

           Pett Walker

POLITIC    Conlon      Worrall

           Proctor

Change Worralls side bring in im go going past players from Bolton and have Proctor doing the hold up play Cass and Benning will give us the width and also the combination play we have to have in order score goals ,Conlon should be getting in there also and I'm Sure Legge is playing well enough make sure when we are defending that there's few alarms at the back .

That's my team and it ain't because certain players haven't done ok I just feel we need to try something different also the 1 up front only works with support so high energy expected from Worrall Politic and Conlon to get the Vale scoring of which I'm sure they will soon enough.

Cass Smith Legge Jones

Walker Conlon Pett

Worrall Rodney Politic

No chance of it happening but that’s my team, though I do think Legge needs to be managed regardless of how he’s playing.

I keep agreeing with VFIA/Breadwinner's teams. Am I going mad or is he getting more sensible?

You're going mad. He's only omitted Smith because he can't stand the bloke and Politic is not match fit with only a few minutes pre-season. And there are no goals in that side (I know that isn't saying much). I usually like Breadwinner's posts but this time he's way off!

I like Smith your wrong he is  a excellent mid table defender and the rest well come on Rodney really it's like watching Groundhog Day every game wheres this electric pace he as and why isn't getting fouled in areas where we can get a shot away ,Politic might just beat a player and get a decent ball in GOAL the outcome.

Do we have enough steel at the moment? We have the height and energy, but need a bit more bite and the dominance that comes from it. Pett is as nice as my nan, get a bit of Keane about us.

Completely in favour of using that formation. Just seems more fluid and gets our more attack minded players in advanced positions. I think it’s probably too early for Politic to start this time (so would put Amoo in there) and it’s a bit up in the air if Conlon is back too.

We are not far off and I think we’ll get our first win here.
