Replacing the likes of Whitfield with players like Lloyd just confirm to me the lack of ambition Askey has !

Look at his record before saying it is ludicrous:-

2016-17 - part of the league 1 team of the year, playing for a struggling Bury alongside Tom Pope.

Summer 2017 - signs for Sunderland but only scores 2 goals in 23 league appearances (championship).

January 2018 - joins Wigan but again struggles with 2 goals in 19 appearances (league 1 promotion year).

2018-19 - scores 2 goals in 19 appearances (championship) and ends up joining Portsmouth 0 goals in 10 appearances (league 1).

 

Since his superb season at Bury he has gone downhill, or found the Championship a step too far.

Portsmouth are hardly rushing to take him, so who will.

 

Maybe it is the manager and players around him (Popey) that brought the best out of him??

Maybe league 2 is now his level....ok there are teams with more financial clout who may be interested, but if you don't make the effort you will never know. If you think it is ludicrous then you have no ambition.

Fair point, but with his recent record he is not going to command that money....despite what his agent thinks.

Seems like Askey is shopping in Poundland and his comment about waiting until later in the window means all the best players will have gone and only the dross no one else wants will be left.

....I agree wholeheartedly with this. Far too many people seem to think that he is 'the answer' - if he is, then I haven't got a clue what the question was. Produced the goods about as often as Dan Turner did, and we all know that he wasn't good enough.

I agree, and i was maybe a bit over zealous with my comment it wasn't a pop at you mate.

I'm not falling out with fellow fans, it's just my personal opinion.

I just think given the clubs he's been at recently it would take a huge drop of his demands for us to even have a chance.

 

With regards to the new guy Burgess, played a lot of games aged 19 then looks to have dropped down the scale out on loan.

 

Askey knows and trusts him and we get this with most managers.

Indeed Vassell and Hannant to name just two of our own followed Aspin.

Made 31 apps, possibly off the bench mostly of course, wiki doesn't clarify.

 

Hopefully we do go for better calibre and he's someone to try and challenge for a spot. Seems to play in the Worrall or Conlon type position so will have to try and break through.
