Match Thread; Barnet v Port Vale

If Popey needs a hernia doing he should get it sorted asap, it'll only get worse until he might be out for the rest of the season with a space hopper in his underpants.

It's time for Forrester and Barndoor Barnett to step up and earn their wages, especially Forrester if he wants a career in the game, plus young Dan Turner has to be given a go, no lack of enthusiasm from him and he did score 3 early in the season.

Looking at the weather forecast every chance of this and many other lower league games being PP.....As well if so, gives a chance for Popey to recover and for any current injured to get back......

no it isn't , weve got train tickets and match tickets , the Hive is a new ground so should have a decent pitch , and its time for players to step up and earn their money and stop hiding behind Pope!!

Exactly right we have 5 strikers to pick from yet Aspin is flogging Pope to death, sort it out Aspo

The problem is Pope and Montano account for 22 of our goals, one is crocked and the other despite his faults is now left back.

Tonge has maybe 3 includes 2 deflected free kicks, Worrall maybe a couple.

Last season Streete and Smith got double figures between them despite relegation. This season I might be wrong but our defence have scored once v Coventry.

We are no threat off set pieces or corners whatsoever and the plain fact is Pope is our go to man.

We are in the doggy doo with this injury hanging over him.

The home games that are left for Barnet.

Port Vale - Saturday 03rd March

Wycombe Wanderers - Saturday 17th March

Crewe Alexandra - Friday 30th March

Forest Green Rovers - Saturday 07th April

Newport County - Saturday 21st April

Chesterfield - Saturday 05th May

Their home form will have a massive impact on who goes down and the fact that they have Chesterfield on the last day of the season could well play an important part in deciding our fate.

Problem is Smugsy there are 2 relegation places , we can't rely on others.

All 6 of their games are winnable and the Morecambe and Crewe results on Saturday prove any result is possible.

Shocks will continue to happen and to me 8 clubs up to and including Yeovil are still in trouble.

If we can't gain enough points from home games against mid table teams with nowt to play for...Stevenage, Crawley, Carlisle then we deserve our fate.

That is why Saturday was so appalling as you couldn't of hand picked a better opponent than Newport.

And we couldn't have picked a worse formation in a game we should have gone for IMO. A centre half at right back, a right back at right wing, a right winger at left wing, 2 holding midfielders and a midfield workhorse as a number ten.

One of Brown's many failings was his continued insistence on playing Pugh and Tonge together in central midfield. They are simply too old, too slow and do not have the legs anymore. You can get away with one but not both but that's what Aspin reverted to Saturday. We all know that 90% of our problems are down to our beloved owner but Aspin does not get off scot free and he clearly picked a poor team Saturday.

It’s a must win game for me, just hope we get behind the lads, Saturday we need as many people going Barnet to roar on the lads, just a shame listening to the radio last night by Mark saying we should be giving free travel for supporters, but the club won’t.

I agree with both of you.

Yes they have been out of form but Harness and Whitfield needed to start as Newport were there for the taking.

Bit of energy and take the game to them was the way to go.

I think Tonge offers more than Pugh and of the pair he is the one to go for.

Worrall and Tonge in the middle and players with pace out wide.

Pugh to come on when we need to run the clock down, though as per Swindon we don't seem capable of good game management

There is the Hugill money.

Smurfs got that on a fleet of new cars, new housing plans on the Vale Park, when we go down and close.

This would be the ideal time to get Pope sorted. Looks like the game may be called off due to the weather, but knowing the Vale, they will wait and wait and then get it down.

If we're playing Tonge and Pugh at this game I'd go Montano and Gibbons as full backs. Worral on the right and either Hannant or Harness on the left with either Whitfeild or Harness behind Pope. We need some pace and attacking options in the team and having Tonge and Pugh in there should allow them to sit in when either full back pushes on.

I’d play Pugh at left back, a midfield 4 and Monty off pope, give Monty license to go where he wants as he,s the most creative player vale have, he’s wasted at left wing back /left back.

I’d have Tonge in center midfield and 3 from worrall/Whitfield/Hannant/harness/Kay alongside him depending on the opposition or home/away.
