I didnt think it was a pen yesterday and watching the highlights I still dont think it was. It was yet another awful decision by the dreadful referee.

I wasn't sure during the game yesterday as I was at the far end of the Vale fans from the penalty incident but I thought it was harsh at the time. Having just watched the highlights a few times I know it was harsh, Stead 'bought' one with his experience, he knew he wasn't going to score with a fast ball running the angle very tight and Davis still to beat; Harness barely brushed him and he went down like a sack of spuds. Someone said earlier that they listened to Radio Nottingham who said the penalty award was 'generous', in my opinion a very good description.

However, the team put in another solid performance and were well worth a draw against a side second in the league who haven't lost at home. Some County fans in the pub after said they thought we were the best team next to Lincoln they'd seen at Meadow Lane this season and were happy to 'nick a win'.

Just listened to Aspos interview ,its such a privelege ave a man like him in charge .

So Duffy has come out on top v Pope over the two games maybe we should have played forrester instead as Duffy is a good pro .

The fact he didnt have a sniff is Why along with the ref and blatant cheating is why we lost the game .

Duffy played the referee the whole game. Whoever we had up front was irrelevant because whenever the ball was in the air Duffy was interrupting the attacking intent by going down holding his face. I don’t remember him being so soft when he played for us!

Walked past a Notts fan after the game who was talking with his young son. Said that they were lucky to get their pen and Vale should have had 2. Not quite sure where he had that from but Barnett 2nd half had a shout for one possibly.

Just wished that Harnness had gone over when contact was made with him in the box. Stayed on his feet. He'll know for next time.

I know we're criticising Stead for going down very easily, but Harness should have gone down second half when he was touched in the box. He was trying to be too honest. Its a shame thats how the game is these days. If only Pope was on the end of that far post header instead of Worral second half.

Plus, I forgot to add, the ref should have been ready for Stead's theatrics as he'd already waved away several dives in the area from them. Maybe if he'd booked someone for diving as he should have done Stead would have thought twice. Diving for penalties seems to be a tactic they're employing given how often they did it.

It was the only way they were going to score, we kept them at bay but sadly that's what makes it all the more annoying that the ref probably knew that too.

They reminded me of Stevenage under Westley, lots of physical presence, efficient bur prepared to do the dark side of the game to win, dive, surround the referee (hence two bookings).

 

Referee did well until the penalty not to overly fall for it but got a key decision wrong there.

Feel a bit sorry for Tootle, he's turned out a bit daft hasn't he? I don't like to have a go at any of Crewe's youth team graduates too much. You never know what personal issues they are battling.

 

Dan Jones was just Dan Jones, he got his usual reception and casually laughed it off, as you do when you get sacked for gross misconduct after committing GBH. To be fair to him he can whip in a dangerous dead ball and he at least looked interested which is more than you can say about his last few months at Vale.

 

Fair play to Dicko, he got a good reception when he was warming up at half time.

 

As for Duffy, it looks like somebody has been teaching him what gamesmanship is, he was never that much of crafty bugger when he played for us. I wonder if Popey was knocking on his front door last night?
