Yates given free transfer? No, contract extended to end of season 2018...

Yatesy had an offer from Mansfield a few seasons ago and was offered quite a bit more money than what he was on with us - He stayed with the Vale.

Yatesy was playing for the club when we went into admin and he didn’t get paid for weeks - He stayed with the Vale.

Yatesy and other players had their contracts cancelled and had no guarantee of wages when the Ryder deal fell through - He stayed with the Vale

When Norman slashed the budget (his wages) and decimated the squad - He stayed with the Vale

We should be doing everything in our power to look after him, give him until the end of the season, so he’s at least got something to fall back on if he struggles to get another club. Also, we really should be pushing the boat out for a testimonial to thank him for his long term efforts and everything he’s been through at the Vale.

Instead we’re throwing him on the **** heap. Am I surprised? Of course not, it’s the Vale way.

Thank **** you’ve woke up

How on earth have you concluded that it's 'the Vale way'. The only precedent for a situation like this since Norman has been at the helm is Enoch andoh. Was he treated unfairly? He got offered a contract despite his injury and turned it down. We kept him at the club for the entirety of his rehabilitation despite this.

I think if you are 'disgusted' by people not believing that a contract is worthwhile then you need to take a look at yourself a bit. It's not disgusting, it's not vile, it's the other side of the coin, that's all.

Yates has had a long career and it's a career that almost all of us would have dreamed of as a child. None of us know his financial position or plans after football. We don't have to offer him anything and he's getting his medical bills paid regardless.

I'll just repeat my stance before someone inevitably attacks me...I think that it is the decent thing for us to offer him a contract until the end of the season.

He's bound to be covered by insurance and that might be paying his wages. There are any number of circumstances that mean Adam Yates is not losing out financially, whether he gets a new contract or not. I suggest we wait for a statement from the club before rushing to judgement.

The answer to your question is quite simple. Footballers will go to the club who pay the most with little, if any, thought about other issues. I hate to spoil people’s illusions about players but that is the harsh reality.

I don’t agree with that. They just blindly follow money and don’t give any thought to anything else?

Agree with the above.

I think it's the decent thing to do and I would personally like us to, however it certainly isn't disgusting.

Let's just wait and see what happens.

I understand that contractual obligations end soon.

I accept that its a "news" story and not all are accurate.

It goes without saying that not all the facts are known.

What I find disheartening is the way its been handled and the "official" statements.

On one hand "no talks have taken place" on the other aspin is hoping to extend loans... its 10 days to the end on the month surely someone has spoken to the players whose contracts/agreements are about to expire?

Above all it looks cheap and shabby. It comes across as penny pinching and last minute panic.

Sometimes its not just about whats happening but about how it appears to be happening... a little thought and consideration about perception goes a long way.

After all of the money that Smurthwaite has spunked over the past 18 months, it wouldn't hurt the ******** to open his infamous "sweetie jar" and help Adam out.

When Pope left first time he shot him down. Same with Birchall. Now he's doing the same with Yatesy.

I can understand we have no money but the way he handles good people, who love this club to bits, makes me sick.

Let's actually wait and see what's happened first before using it as more ammunition against the chairman.

Ok so just to clear this up... his contract runs out on 31/12/17 so at that point if he isnt playing because hes not very good its fine to not offer him a new deal....but if he isnt playing because hes not very good and gets injured in a reserve game then we should offer him a new deal?????

that to me sounds like lunacy??

im sure Mr Yates agent has released that story to pull on the heart strings and try and force a 6 month extension onto the the deal that runs out on 31/12/17. cause lets be honest without the injury he had absolutely no chance of an extension
