The key point about the original Sky story is that there wasn’t a single attributable quote in there. Always be suspicious of stories like that.

It does seem very likely that multinational Sky Sports were that desperate for clicks they decided to make a story up about Port Vale's 2nd choice right back.

 

This story came from somewhere; whether it be Yates, his agent, Smurf, who knows. All I know is that SSN had 0 to gain by making it up, and wouldn't know enough about Port Vale to conjure it out of thin air.

 

The main issue here is the people who thought that Yates was going to be released, and then scrambled to justify it on grounds of 'its just business' and 'he hasn't contributed'. As I've said, a fascinating insight into the makeup of Port Vale fans.

Sorry to disagree Hagrid, but the only people lapping up this non-story were the knockers of the club.

 

The fact you've instantly lapped us this account that the club always planned to give Yates a deal, and Sky Sports just made it up for the sheer hell of it, is whats worrying.
