Signings - Part 2

Aussie Rules

Recommended Posts

I really wouldn't care if I had to sit through 1-0's and 0-0'S to achieve promotion, I just want to get out of that dreadful, dreadful division ASAP!

I don't think anyone would! I remember Burton won 12 games 1-0 in their season where they were promoted to the Championship.

The signings seem disappointing and the Club's position is that we'll all just be chuffed to have Pope back.

Last year's crop of Euro's at least started-off with some hope but when Crwho are signing better players than us, you know its time to worry.

Yeah wasn't criticising, just saying that even though they're not the best signings in most people's eyes, looks as though Brown has maybe planned out who he wants, & it can't be a coincidence that they all have the same feature on their CV.

It could be argued that whilst many are saying we've missed out on a lot of decent players, Brown may not be missing out on as many of his actual targets as people think, if he is aiming for a squad based around this idea.

Not criticising your post Tomo just my thoughts.

It's a big job rebuilding from a very low base.

The call in the past was for a clear out.

That happened by offering poor contracts and was really very underhand.

Then we had the massive influx.

That failed.

The club is now in the process of stabilising, building both a team and a reputation.

A hell of a lot of factors that are getting in the way of our ideal of bouncing back.

Has anyone else noticed a trend with Brown's signings this summer in that they've all been promoted at some point in their career:

Pope - Promoted with Vale to L1

Davis - Promoted with Vale to L1

Montano - Promoted with Bristol Rovers to L1

Kay - Promoted to the Championship with Barnsley, Huddersfield, MK Dons

Lainton - Promoted with Bury to L1

Hornby - Promoted with Burton (although didn't play any games)

Kelly - Promoted to Championship with Sheff Utd (although didn't play any games)

Green - Promoted with Dagenham, Charlton, MK Dons

Barnett - Promoted to L1 with Shrewsbury

Seems like he's trying to build a squad of players that know what to do to win and have had the pressure/experience of a promotion campaign?

Given the fact 11 teams a season are promoted( counting Conference) and some of these are in their 30's it is hardly surprising they have a promotion on a CV.

Would imagine one or two have a relegation on CV too.

I don't think this is why Brown has signed them, basically they are the only ones willing to join.

People be saying get Willo back next as he has a promotion to his name !!

Who have they signed that is better than us, I am genuinely fascinated?

I'd say Pope is better than Porter and the rest are people I personally wouldn't want.

Tyrone Barnett confirmed on a two year deal.

Underneath the tweet from the Vale account one Wombles fan has put "you've bagged your self a right donkey there folks. Easily the laziest player I've ever seen. Beyond woeful"

I think we know what we are getting & I don't expect him to be anything special, hopefully just a back up & won't be first choice alongside Pope anyway. If he can come on from the bench & score a few, will be happy with that.

Be a bit disappointed if we have him as first choice though.

Why on earth would you waste a 2 year deal on him?

If he fails he leaves next season and if he succeeds and we get promoted we wouldn't want him.

Bizarre decision.

Do you actually understand how hard it is to bring a player in? Do you realise how many clubs are in our league trying to sign the exact same players as us?

Where would you rather live on the same wages? Exeter or Stoke on Trent?

The pool of players available is huge. Finding the right ones is extremely difficult.

We are a league 2 side.. the type of players we are after are exactly the type of players I expect us to sign.

Barnett is a good signing for our level.. I don't see the issue.
