Signings - Part 2

Aussie Rules

Recommended Posts

Come on are you for real??

I used to like reading some of your points but i do think you have gone a bit loopy over the summer(no offence intended)

I don't know how the fact that Barnett and Pope are better than Reg and JJ makes them good signings.

JJ and Reg will go down as one of the most ineffectual strike partnerships in Vale history. Any player is an upgrade.

Pope and Barnett are both 30+, with Barnett not getting more than 6 league goals in a season since 2011 and Pope no more than 8 since 2014.

I don't think any person who considers themselves a Vale fan at the present can be considered sane.

Tbh lads I've been doing some thinking, and maybe I was a little harsh about this window.

We're building a mid-table side which will keep us in the division and we won't get relegated. We might even nick a point or 3 off of Crewe.

Sure, we've missed out on lots of targets, but hopefully Pope and Barnett can display their form of the past couple of seasons, and Lainton can utilise his experience to shore up the net.

Streete, Foley, and possibly Eagles may have left, but they don't want to be here! I only want committed players, regardless of ability. Hopefully Brown can continue his excellent transfer agenda in signing players born in the Stoke vicinity, as its been proven that Oatcakes increase goalscoring output by 17%. Really clever strategy from the management.

Combined with the prolific, consistent Montano and the durable, industrious Danny Green, maybe our side could contend for the playoffs next season.

Turner and Reeves are clearly ready, shown by their excellent runs in the teams magnificent final 10 games of last season. Hopefully they will be regular starters, exemplifying our depth in strength. Forrester will unshackle his left calf and will be fit and firing. We always have Michael Brown ready to fill in, and he has played at the top level. And I wouldn't want to forget Yatesy, Mr Port Vale, a model of consistency and loyalty for nearly a decade amidst interest from approximately 0 clubs.

Also buzzing to see some real, top-level experience in the side. Anthony Kay did superbly in a good Bury side last year, and Danny Pugh has enjoyed a renaissance in recent years.

All in all, not too bad. Hopefully we can push the season ticket sales over the mark of 3,500, which would really show the enthusiasm the supporters are feeling.

Thats the spirit bet you feel a lot better

Well we already have so guess it's not time to pack it in.

You agree that that doesn't automatically make Pope and Barnett good signings? That literally any other professional footballers would be an upgrade?

Where did i say they were good signings?? i am just not going jump on the negative bus of every player we sign,my point is we are signing better players so far in this window than those who left or who were let go,only in my opinion of course

Tbh i see what you are saying but again looking at positives...i would say Lainton and the other lad are replacing Mehmet and the celtic lad forggot his name....Davis i would say replaces McIntosch...maybe Kay replaces Streete...if fit and we sign him then Green would replace Eagles...as i say i am just trying to find a positive outlook,i just dont think the signings are as bad as some are saying but we are all entitled to opinions i guess

Good post apart from the out there statement about McIntosh, not sure how he comes into your equation as we saw diddly squat of him and no way could he even be mentioned as any sort of squad member ?

They are better players.

I'm still not happy, cus these players aren't very good either. Just better than perhaps the worst Vale side of my lifetime.

It makes me feel better to think Davis replaces him thats all:wink:

To be fair though until he plays for us again Davis could step into Streete's shoes, none of us know but hopefully he can prove many wrong

So going of that you are saying(now lets forget the stats you throw in as it was for previous clubs and not for us) Davis(i include him as we haven't seen him play for a few years),Lainton,Montano,Barnett,Kay,Kelly and Hornby aren't very good without seeing them play or rarely seeing them and not seeing them play for Vale yet??

Davis struck me as moving due to bad advice , his old man berated Vale as offering him a poor deal, he sought his fame at Leicester and ended up lower down the league than when he left us in the first place.

Jury out on him until we see him i guess but probably better than some of the dross we had.

He missed all of 2016/17 but a broken leg is a good reason that could happen to any player. Because we have got a squad with a lot of first year professionals and a tight budget we can't carry an experienced player who isn't fit. It is a tough business football. But that aside he has played 257 professional games scoring 45 goals and played at higher levels than League 2. So he looks a potentially good acquisition to me.

I agree with your sentiment .We shouldn't even consider this lad. We should be building a club of young hungry players especially considering we have Kay,Pugh and Pope as the spine. We need at least 8 players who can play 40+ games but this lad would be a huge gamble regardless of ability. Budget should be spent better than this.

Would you say Barnett will be better then Hooper? if he is Hoopers replacement then i am happy with that..If Pope is Reg's replacement i am happy with that, lets look at positives for once instead of people moaning about every signing

Good spin on a crap situation. I'd like to see anyone argue different they would prefer JJ and Hooper.

At least we can all stop saying "Pope would have got on the end of that" each time a good cross comes in.
