Let me see if I have go this right...

The day after an inspiring performance with an additional 400 floating Vale fans or so, our esteemed owner seeks to woo these supporters back for another match by announcing...

...he is cutting the budget for next season! The guy is clueless.

I have no doubt that the large crowds we had during the promotion season were down to Paul Wildes. If Smurf had been in sole charge at that time, I think the matches against Burton and Northampton would not have been over 8,000.

Like anyone else, the chairman needs encouragement, not abuse. There have been those moving against him from the first moment he set foot in the club, as there have against Page. I am extremely grateful for everything Mr Smurthwaite has done for the club and, if he goes, I wish him well in the future.
Well don't the 'mugs' who turn up week after week need encouragement and not to have to hear his constant garbage as a reward.

Quicker its sold and he moves on the better.

Do we still swallow that there are people interested in the club? its gone from being done at the end of Feb,to the end of the season,to next season and then conveniently enough a 12mth non disclosure,so he doesn't have to name anyone.....i am starting to think its a load of ********.....I am surprised he didn't praise the Coventry support again, especially after asking us to applaud them last season

Please come and spend hundreds on a season ticket, but most of the players who are out of contract wont sign cos they will have to take a 30 to 40 percent pay cut to stay. Not looking to discuss contracts yet as we dont know what the budget will be but likely to be £800k less than this season. Well done Norm brilliant PR for the fans and the alleged new buyer. Thought I was listening to Bratt at first with all the rubbish about confidentiality and signing exclusivity agreements. Sooner he goes the better

Thank you for posting those comments,as I thought I was hearing things!!!

I think this could be a cunning move despite my fury at what he said, the sentinel are saying he still hopes to sell this month....well maybe he has now put in place the opportunity for a new owner(HIS) choice to come in and then say they are going to up the budget and extend the deadline on tickets thus making them look good

Maybe, but there was nothing new in his statement, just the obvious that we cannot spend more than what comes in, unless he loans us more money. There is just no point in repeating it time and time again. Any other business would try and build on a success such as Sunday, highlighting the exciting new players gelling together.

Smurf has done it again. How to motivate the fans and the players.

Players - Why play if I am going to take a 40% pay cut - why bother I am off.

Fans - Guess we will only have 18 man squad and the rest will be under 18's then. Guess I will buy a season ticket to watch them play.

Never trusted Smurthwaite since he first took over.

You just don't know where you stand with him, one minute he tells us one thing like we're not signing anymore players and a few days later we sign someone or we do the opposite.

He always seems to blame the fans for everything, it's never his fault (even though we all know most of it is as he takes on too much) but he makes most fans like myself who have a ST year in year out feel like our support is worthless.

The last straw for me was him going on sky sports the other month with the "I've been beat up and saying that the fans are racists" sob story. I have a business contact of mine who is from an ethnic minority that called me shortly after Smurthwaite's sky sports outburst and my business contact jokingly said that he didn't know if he should call me as he feared that I may be racist towards him. I've never been racist to anyone and I know this was only a bit of banter but it left me feeling so angry towards what that idiot had said, as it could start to affect my work life.

I just want him gone from the club, the sooner the better as he's the most unprofessional business person I've ever come across and I no longer want him representing the club I've supported for over 30 years.
