People weren't calling for Campion to be played because he was a world beater, they wanted him played just to see what he was like, scored lots in the reserves but never got a look in in the first team, I think once we had seen him then we realised maybe the first team was a step to far at that stage of his development.

Most people were calling for Campion to play because based on 2 paragraph reports on reserve games in The Sentinel they felt they new more about the player than the coaching team who saw him every day.

Clearly wasn't ready last season, but I think there is something there and he could come through in 2015/16. He does seem to be a natural goal scorer.

Yep that's basically what I wrote, last season was probably a bit too soon.

No idea how you came to that conclusion. I'm saying there are some good players and some bad players.

Was kaid Mohammed a good signing for vale? Was djemba djemba a good signing for Utd? What about Kevin gall? Mackenzie?

Lets just hope whoever the successor for Williamson is scores at least 9 goals then should we ?

I'm excited and apprehensive at the same time about what striker we bring, with Pope leaving his ridiculous contract behind the guy who comes in has got to be first choice and probably the best paid player at the club so it's exciting times.

I agree with this but I can't honestly think of anyone who is available or would score the goals we need to be successful. Perhaps we need to look into league two and the conference and cherry pick a gem. It's certainly an area where page will have to earn his corn.

We were in for Andy Williams.

21 for Swindon last term.

If thats the calibre of striker we are after im not worried.

But's that's the problem, we were in for him but didn't get him and it could well be the same for other strikers of Williams and Pope's calibre. It's going to be tough to replace Tom Pope and the same can be said of Ben Williamson, we need two strikers who can score at least 20+ between them, it wouldn't surprise me that the the loan market may be the answer as Crewe and others have shown.

Last two seasons in league 1.

Ben Williamson. 10 goals in 87 appearances.

Tom Pope. 20 goals in 77 appearances.

Combined. 30 goals in 164 appearances.

If you are worried that cant be replaced fella, then you may as well give up on us.

Tom Pope was much more that just a goal scorer, the reason players of his type can command the biggest pay packets is that there are not many of 'em around and when they are around clubs pay a premium for them, simple supply and demand. Vale have to compete on the wage front for a striker.
