  1. I have no idea about this game. BR played some good one touch stuff under Joey Spacker, no idea how they play now. Loft will have a point to prove, he is on fire, two in two (calendar years) now I think. I will go 1-1. Att: 6,900/750 Bristolians.

  8. Easy to be blasé... more difficult to make a difference to people's lives who really need it like these people at Vale are trying to do.

  9. Need to have a clear mentality of what's required. Season starts at home Fri. I'm sure there's a lot of folk who are because of what been subjected to mainly in home games since Jan 23, who are like myself at present not sure if a season ticket is worthwhile having . The Players have 4 X 90 to convince me part with my hard earned coin as walking me daughters dog is free, and enjoyable , and going a national Trust only about 180 quid a year and there's many you can go and have a active happy day with no stress and lots to do to keep ones soul happy . So like I say you can buy the shirts you can go the games but you got to get some enjoyment out of doing so . Years ago a few pre match pints didn't really bother me losing as long as saw they were going at it not giving in, playing to win all game ,I haven't seen that this season and quite frankly overall we will do well stay in league thats not negative that's truth . Watching sober is something else its so poor lad at work said it was such a rubbish game v Burton said Vale deserved win but it was such a horrible game . 8 more of those comments sat Tues(Fri and Mon) ill take . Season starts now . Everything to play for . In my mind we have to approach all remaining games positively. It's 11 v 11 that's all Might get 6000 home fans be a big ask get more because of past home performances ,that's why they should reduce and if still wanted folk pay more then just reduce for hamil Do a trial one in there make a offer if buy in next 24 hrs 10 pounds Adult 18/100 If after 24 hrs 12 pounds Keep putting it up every day till matchday and share the living daylights out of it Most folk buy at the cheapest price and instead of not attending that's 2500 at 10 pounds more in say Hamil . More atmosphere more encouraging more likely inspire players. That's what I'd do but I'm not in the sales department

  10. For the new recruitment arrangements we put in place now, it's crucial that the Manager is involved and has the final say (subject to Owner's budgets of course). Whatever you or I might think of Flitcroft the individual, the set-up we had under him was clearly unsuitable for a Club of our size and stature. However, there does have to be one person in charge of all things to do with the playing side, so for Vale, the Manager should be providing his wish list and ultimately deciding who is signed based on the recommendations of the recruitment team.

  11. I was thinking about the concept of a new manager bounce and how part of it is new ideas, new tactics, new motivation etc but also part of it is to do with players getting a blank slate, new position in team, new chance to gain better contract etc. With recruitment and contracts basically being a DoF thing, we might have missed out on that part of the bounce with Moore. Hoping this proves to be true but now Flitcroft is gone, means that every player has that fresh start. At the moment all the power is with Moore so hopefully they are busting a gut for him and not burdened by any previous pecking order stuff with Flitcroft plans. It did kind of feel different in the Burton game. Hopefully it continues.

  12. Including Reading in the mix, there are 6 6pointers to be played so their results could well be decisive. Let us hope we can have the final say.

  13. Seamus you have asked the question, a lot of Vale fans are thinking.

  14. Yes and equally those are fair points. As you say, in earlier seasons Foyley did sign some decent players at good value fees. So yes the big picture of his signings is more positive than his last 2007-2008 season suggests.

  17. Jesus - I'd long resigned David Rocastle to the Alzheimer's part of my brain. Thanks for dredging that one back! Like a helicopter missing its tail rotor.

  18. I can just imagine it... "There's a lengthy check on that foul. Baggies striker Ronnie Allen is sitting on the advertising hoardings enjoying a Woodbine, while Port Vale's Reg Potts has left the pitch, he's got a bus home to catch..."

  19. Yes that is a fair point. However, in theory they were all good signings. Rocastle had a good pedigree and reputation, as did Edwards. Tudor had ripped us apart at Orient and Miller also had a good pedigree. None of them worked out agreed, but at the time they were signed we were all pretty content. Perhaps they did not work out so well because Martin was not the ideal manager to get the best out of them. We need to look at all of the Tinman's signings. Other signings for us that were not so bad, Dean Smith, Nathan Lowndes, Robin Hulbert. Mark MacGregor, Signings who were more than ok, Marc Richards, Leon Constantine, Akpo Sodje, Luke Rodgers, Danny Whittaker, Danny Sonner, Tony Dinning, Paul Harsley.. Any of those strikers or midfielders would walk into our team right now. All of that lot cost us in the order of £50,000 in total. To sum up someone's success at recruitment you need to look at the big picture not just one small period in the calendar. The great John Rudge signed some awful players, signings is a percentage game. Overall, Martin Foyle's record is decent. So with respect, I was around in 2007, and have been around watching Vale for over 60 years and my memory is pretty damn good.

  21. I get the point, but it's a bit 'backward' to the way many modern clubs recruit now. Because of manager turnover in particular, generally the best run sides have an 'identity' and recruit towards that (managers and players included). Of course that's what DF was supposed to do but somehow managed to dictate a wingback system and provide us with no wingbacks, and some of our best youth prospects being wingers. So DM running the show might not be great if he didn't work out, because of the turnover needed when a new manager comes in who has a different approach. Saying that, Moore's shown himself to be more flexible than I imagined with team shape and set up, he doesn't seem to have an identity at all. So I'm really not sure whether to be convinced DM would be the right person to drive recruitment or not.

  22. And a very ropey manager for us in the mid 2000s.

  23. I agree with this, in my opinion it puts unnecessary pressure on clubs and it could be argued on the players themselves.

  33. Got to disagree with you there, their number 4 was steaming in to block the shot, if Lofty didn't lift it no 4 blocks it. Match Highlights | Burton Albion 0-1 Port Vale | News | Port Vale WWW.PORT-VALE.CO.UK

  34. Just bought my ticket. Could do with Barnsley beating Cambridge, us beating The Gas, Wigan stuffing Burton, Peterborough beating Carlisle and Cheltenham-Fleetwood drawing. If we put in another good shift and work hard for each other, I dont care if Loft scores a hat trick where they all go in off his arse - and we get the results above it will start to make others very nervous.

  35. Thats what was so pleasing to see.The fight from the whole team was there. Has been missing big style for many weeks. Hard to single out anyone but Smith and Loft were teriffic. Little bit of confidence now, first for a long time. A win on Friday would be fantastic for us fans. Just think what it would do for the players...

  37. Actually I was trying to ask the question, hence the question mark, as to whether or not some of the money spent on community projects could have gone towards a better player budget. Obviously it was a hamfisted attempt, but I can glean the answer from the replies. However, since I am not an accountant, I must remember not to ask any further financial questions and I assume (probably incorrectly) that other non-accountants will do the same.

  38. Martin Foyle was a star as a player and is a star as a person, a genuine Vale legend who is always welcome at the club. But the suggestion that "Martin Foyle would be a good head of recruitment" either wasn't around for the 2007-2008 season or has wiped it from their memory. Sorry to make people relive the pain, but have a read about the recruitment for that season ... 2007–08 Port Vale F.C. season - Wikipedia EN.WIKIPEDIA.ORG
