Bolton (H) match thread - Sep 30th

It’s because Cass is making a habit of slipping…. perhaps he should change his studs.
I thought Cass had a good game overall and Ojo was clearly fouled leading up to the goal. It was right in front of where I sit and the lad pulled him around but Ojo was looking for it rather than trying to drive forward away from the defender which is perhaps why he didn’t get the free kick.
Small margins against one of the best teams in the league.

I thought Cass played well when he came on, he was much more positive than Mr Morretti. Going forward he gives us much more of an overlap.

But we so need a striker, the 2nd half I lost count of their keeper getting a free hit at the ball or their defenders being 1st to the loose ball in their box. The players need to have more desire to be 1st to the ball in the box, just jump with the keeper, was so frustrating that 2nd half, that for all of the ball we had, i don’t think their keeper had a save of any note?

You think so? I was in the middle of the railway stand yesterday and most of the home support came from this area.

Is there a good reason why we can't open the end blocks of the Hamil closest to the Railway Stand, even if it's at the expense of the block closest to the Lorne St being closed?

Totally agree.

The league stats so far show interesting reading. Goals scored are not far from XG so we aren’t particularly wasteful however we are one of the worst teams creating big chances. I think a lot of that is linked to the striker options. We don’t have that movement in the box . For all our good pretty play we need to work on creating better opportunities.

I’d like to see Thomas play as  striker with Wilo one of our 10’s in a home game.

Looks a better defender than Cass. Personally I’d see Debrah as the option at CB and have Cass cover Clark at RWB.

I think we'll see Debrah coming off the bench for a good number of games yet.  I stayed behind after the Sutton Utd game when he was warming down after playing 20 minutes and he was really blowing, I'd guess that he's not fit enough to start just yet but he does look an asset.

Ojo's slip was virtually identical to the Sutton player's slip on Tuesday which resulted in Thomas's goal - none of us thought that was a foul by Rhys Walters on that occasion...

It wasn't a slip and it would have been given as a foul by 50% of refs. I've watched it back a couple of times and when he got the ball back from Wilson he had 3 defenders around him. The first defender does have his hand on the shoulder but does get a foot on the ball, Ojo then goes over his leg. There wasn't much else Ojo could do as there wasn't really an out ball.

Cass is developing a history of slipping over. Not sure he wears the right studs.

No idea what you watched back today but it was surely not the Ojo incident from yesterdays game that you are talking about.

First of, he's not got control of the ball at all. Their is only 1 defender around him, not 3 which you mention, in which Ojo turns straight into that defender. He then easily gets out muscled. Nothing wrong with it at all and I reckon 99 times out 100 a ref would play on

It's what I have been trying to say for weeks but I get shot down after every game when I mention it.

We create bugger all and those stats back that up.

We look good on the ball which I think makes most Vale fans look at the game in kind of blinkered view

Sold ST's now though fir those blocks.  Agree the end blocks should also be opened.   Doesnt affect me btw, so no self interest

Just a few more observations after first ten league games of season .

We don't score enough .

Barnsley 7 Vale 0

Port Vale 1 Reading 0

Blackpool 0 Vale 0

Vale 1 Carlisle 0

Charlton 2 Vale 3

Oxford 1 Vale 2

Port Vale 1 Northampton 0

Cambridge 1 Vale 1

Vale 2 Burton 3

Vale 0 Bolton 1

Plant has yet to get a assist for all his good play that final ball is lacking .

There seems a lack of desire get hurt when ball comes in .

Our movement for how many balls that come in needs to improve ten fold .

If Grants sticking quality balls in there's no excuse for the movement alone to get our players on end of crosses .

Lots to do the footballs actually quite decent but worryingly we have started to lose at home which good sides tend to never do .

The goal sat for me ojos lost the ball fairly then Cass has slipped unfortunately then Smith has not reacted quick enough block the shot .

A series of  unfortunate events with led to a deserved goal for them and a mountain the Vale failed to climb but with no lack of effort just a lack of quality in the opposition box .

That’s common sense Smithie, still sadly lacking.

Personally would open the whole stand so people could move from their allocated seats if they want to. Nothing worse than being sat with or around some obnoxious gits for a whole season. Problem is you then have to employ more stewards as they are calculated on seats available for use. Could end up with more stewards than fans on the Bycars for a mid-week visit by a team like Sutton!
