Because Askey thinks he is better than Vassell. And he can cover more positions.

More bang for your buck!

Vassell had some absolute nightmares last season. I can’t recall seeing a player look like he had visibly collapsed mentally in a game like he did.

It is getting a little concerning that Askeys contacts and scouting pool seems extremely limited.

I guess it comes down to many factors, where he lives, what his personality is like, what he can bring to the squad,if he wants to come here and more importantly what his salary demands are,I've noticed we are signing a few on 1 year contracts so if they don't work out we don't have to be lumbered next season.

Does that make it 4 out of the 8 summer signings are players that Askey had at Macclesfield? - plus Crookes from here last season.

Seems that we've probably forked out to attract Amoo, Cullen &, to a lesser extent Bennett, and then Askey has just gone through his list of ex-players (from Conference level) for the rest.

Bit of a gamble if the "more influential" players, i.e. Pope, Cullen, Oyeleke, are out for any lengthy periods, which is very likely given their recent fitness records.

Better than last season when we signed some strong players like Brown and an entire squad of gambles. Better the devil you know. Who was the local lad we signed then sent him on loan and then his contract expired 🙄🙄

Interesting that this lad wasn't first choice though. Askey obviously knew him so I wonder if he is plan C behind the trialist and Clarke.

Not got a problem with any of the signings or where they've been previously. Think JA is building a squad that he can trust and act proffesionally. Hopefully the change in culture will mean a squad of hard working lads, who will play for the badge. That's what me as a fan wants. Il back any player that runs his heart out, and gives 100 per cent. Past records at different clubs means nothing, it's how well they gel as a team for us. John obviously trusts these lads to give him performances, and I've got no reason to doubt him. I've got a feeling Ryan lloyd will surprise his doubters.

Signed a two year contract at Macc end of 2017-18 but didn’t play a game?
Just what we need another Macc reject.
Askey shopping in Poundland again to make up the numbers.
Could,nt see anything wrong with Cummings who looked decent and good league experience.
Gibbons still struggling with fitness issues like last year  and Rawlinson and Kennedy can play full back.
Throwing away the budget on squad players again.
You couldn’t make it up.

You literally no nothing

Macc fans actually rate him quite highly and are quite miffed that they’ve allowed him to walk away from his contract.

Are we changing the team name to Macc Rejects.

Despite Macc being in dire straits we haven’t signed any of their regular first teamers.

Money for nothing.

Do you wish we had signed one of their aging central midfielders to play on the wing? Like Tongue?

I think it's important to assess signings and the building of the squad, especially after the last three seasons.

My impression is that we have a pretty decent first team.

Beyond that are squad players of limited experience, some of whom will flourish, others won't.

The season could turn on keeping key players fit and how well their replacements adapt.

On this early evidence, Worrall could be a godsend as he can play in midfield as well as in a front three.

I was fairly optimistic this time last year.

I am again this year, for a mid/ lower mid table, middle of the road season.

Heaven!

You don’t remember Ryan Boot at Crewe???

Yeah, that performance killed his career with us. Much like Vassells too (but I forget which game it was where he just completely went, that was until he was subbed at half time and put out of his misery).

The surprise will be if he plays more than half a dozen games.
