The Run In

I haven't seen the form tables or gone back on this thread and perused all the fixtures, but I'd say that Yeovil look in big trouble because they're not in great form and appear in free-fall at the moment.

Both County and Macclesfield have fought hard to just about keep in touch and both are capable still of winning matches.

County looked poor in our game but have had 2-3 excellent victories in the past month and can score goals.

Crawley have declined, along with Cambridge, whereas Morecambe and ourselves have picked up and got more points on the board.

It looks like if we can reach last season's points tally (47) then we'll probably be ok.

That isn't any great shakes of course because 50+ is often the minimum needed but thankfully last season and this one there are a few teams worse than us.

If we do survive - as another thread has pointed out - a lot of credit should go to Askey.

I was 99% sure that we were dead and buried when the window closed and I couldn't see where another win was coming from. Askey has conjured up three vital wins and they've made such a difference.

That said, we need to keep going. Our three away games to come are incredibly tough.

I have to say that yesterday, post game, was the 1st time in a long time that I have looked at the table and felt that 50 points is an achievable target.

I know that feeling! But I do sincerely believe we can reach 52/53 points and that always historically has been enough to avoid the trapdoor.

To be fair, 50 points is the total that teams in League 1 strive to achieve to avoid relegation. Four teams go down from that league so we should be OK with slightly less in League 2 as only 2 teams go down. Having said that it has been known for teams in our league to go down with 50 points occasionally.

One year 35 was enough (2016)!

I think we will be ok as we are, can’t see Yeovil getting three wins in six with their games and still an ask for Notts to do it or Macc to win 3 and draw 1. Beat Crewe though and almost certainly will be job done. I’m more looking at who we can catch above us than below us at the minute.

Not so long ago, I would have said Notts and Macc. Looking at the fixtures, it could well be Yeovil and Cambridge.

Looks as though it won’t be Cambridge based on their score tonight at the moment. I’ll never win the pools.

Great result today and I don't really see a scenario where we can go down now. I still believe that 43 points will be enough and that it will be 2 from the current bottom 3 that will go. Yeovil & Notts have a slight advantage as they both get to face Crewe in the run in, Macc on the other hand have to face us at fortress Vale Park.

For us let's get to 50 points and see where we go from there.
