2018 FA Cup - 1st Round - Sunderland at Vale Park

For Us All

The most annoying thing is, so much promotion and marketing these days can be done free or at minimal cost.

This ''limp along and stay where we are'' mentality really does my head in.

We can debate this till the cows come home. The truth is that it doesn't matter how much marketing is done, how much the price of a ticket is, how many cash turnstiles we have open etc etc. The increase in numbers would not be significant. Yes they are important and as a club we are p*** poor at it. You can not overlook the fact the ground is a sh*t hole so the match day experience is, to any new comer an eye opener to say the least. The list of things that make it bad is to big to even start to list out. Therefore it is only the die hards that know what needs to be done that attend most, if not all home games and I include myself as one of those. So until the basics are addressed improving the match day experience unfortunately we are banging are heads against a brick wall.

Don't think the ground is an issue really. I would say Vale Park is one of the better grounds in this league and better than quite a few in league 1.

Christ compared to grounds in the sixties it is luxurious now and we used to get far bigger gates then.

The main issue for me is that we have had a lot of negativity coming out of the club for several years interrupted only by the promotion season. Two episodes of going into administration and having owners who have alienated the fan base have all contributed to the dark cloud that has hung over Vale Park for a number of years.

Until we get an owner in that puts the club 1st and invests in the team then gates will never improve.

For all SVA fans in America , the match is being shown on ESPN + , kicking off at 9:30am EST, 8:30 am CST and 6:30am PST.

Is it being shown online on ESPN just on satellite? I work in the middle East but can access their online streaming.

We certainly don't want to see adverts, marketing efforts, aggressive promotion of the ticket deal, or any persuasion to come to the game rather than watch it on TV.

After all, no other clubs use these methods do they?

I never said we don't want the game marketed, my argument was about how to buy tickets. You were asking for cash turnstiles, which simply won't happen and hardly does at any other ground. And you were complaining about an increase on the day of the game, which happens at every league game.

For me, the Marketing and Ticketing go hand in hand.

Leaving aside the latter, the FA Cup-tie is (sad to say) our biggest occasion in a long time. Big occasions are there to be exploited to the maximum. I know that if I were in charge l would want a big turnout from Vale fans/casual watchers and I would do everything in my power to promote and raise ticket sales.

Can anyone tell me what the club has done out of the ordinary to achieve this?

Thanks HV, bring back Fox Soccer Channel at least then I knew exactly on which channel all the games were being shown. There are about 3 million ESPN channels of different flavors.

Anyone know if the game is on iFollow.

FSC had great coverage, Paul. ESPN + has it now till 2022. Football League, EFL Cup and FA Cup from Round One. I have it on Apple tv and it costs $4.99 a month, not bad.
