Hopefully we can find a young non-league target-man gem who can come in as an understudy for Pope. I don't ctually know of anyone like that but there must be a few 'Jordan Hugills' out there.

 

I'd love to see a like-for-like replacement for Knops too, someone who can cover left back and centre half. After that I'd say we're pretty much sorted. Perhaps one or two on-loan wingers to see if they can impress.

 

Loan Calveley and Benns out and, with the three transfer listed players hopefully leaving, that'll be us around the 25 man mark.

In truth I don't see there's much left in the budget, 4 of the signings were probably close to first choice (Brown, Legge, Joyce and Miller) and will be on top dollar. I think we are now in hit and hope territory with new signings. We've probably signed all the midfield gems Rudge and Aspin have identified they are relatively confident can step up.

Maybe Tyrone will step up to the plate for us. He needs to attract attention to get a new deal next season if not this.

By the looks of it it'll take a miracle for any of the 3 transfer listed players to change Aspins mind. Take a trip down to training like I did this week and you'll see why.

They aren't training with the first team, put it that way.

 

Not sure that making someone train with the youth team is going to push them off the wage budget. If someone if bothered about playing they will train just as well with the first team. If they aren't then they'll quite happily trundle along with the youth team and do just enough not to get sacked.

Harry Smith to Macc as well. Makes me wonder if that is all they were rumours, i realise we finished way down the pyramid but surely players going to Morecambe and Macc ought not to be on our radars?

Players go where the money is and we've spent our elsewhere. It would be a major shock if we hadn't talked to Smith as he had the height to cover an injured Tom Pope. We couldn't offer him much chance of being a first choice starter (with bonuses attached) and Miller will be on a good wage so probably not a big amount of money.

Can't see us splashing the cash. I think we're probably done apart from a couple of loan players.

It's frustrating to see but we are not competitive any longer with the 7-8 bigger spenders at our level.

 

Hopefully Aspin who is used to operating with a restricted budget can unearth a few gems but as long as we can move away from the bottom next season it'll be an improvement on what we've watched for the last 2 years.

 

Fingers crossed but we need a lot of our ducks in a row to have a good season.
