Sounds like a good signing.

Should be decent cover for Doddsy.

I assume you're not being sarcastic there... and I would expect and hope that he will be higher up the pecking order than Dodds. I would also imagine that he would expect the same; to sign as a striker behind Pope, Miller, Dodds and possibly Kanu would be foolish in my opinion.

The slightly odd thing is he's a season long loan as he only has 12 months left on his contract. He was always the likely Blackpool player we were after a couple of weeks ago, because at the same time he was vocal about wanting to leave Blackpool. As there with other clubs in for him it's hard to think we aren't paying all his wages and as he's out of contract in 12 months so he won't play for Blackpool again. He's over 24 so no chance of compensation. It would seem to be more sensible that we would just take it contract over.

Highly thought of at the top end of non league. Adds a bit of height if Pope is injured. Maybe Miller has a fight to partner Pope.

Yeah, that's what I was getting at. Just 6 months after paying £35,000 for him Blackpool have effectively sent him elsewhere for the remainder of his 2 year contract. I didn't think Blackpool were so flush to be doing that?

I'd be surprised if we are paying all of his wages, with it being a loan, otherwise as you say, we may as well just take over his contract if we're paying all of them.

Slightly strange that Blackpool paid £35,000 for him on a 2 year deal, loaned him out for the second half of his first season, and then loan him out for the whole of his second year. They must have quickly (or should that be Quigley?!) decided that he wasn't up to it for them.
They have an option for a 3rd year, and a clause for a final transfer fee of £50k, so may want to avoid a trigger with too many appearances, as they do not rate him as L1 standard. Still strange though.

But also hard to imagine he's on a big wage, nowhere near the 2 grand Dodds was allegedly on.

I doubt Aspin ever had the slightest intention of playing Dodds up front. He's used three at the back as a preferred formation a lot before he returned to Vale. Three in central midfield would allow him to play one of the midfield players just behind the front two. He used Hannat in that role at Gateshead and I suspect Dodds was brought back to cover him.

He's signed 3 centrehalves and chasing a 4th, which is overkill with Smith and Kay on the books unless he intends to play 3. He's looking at the Irish lad, whose played quite a lot on the left of a back 3 as well as fullback.
