These are the players whos contract is up this summer, we already know that Regis is off:

Ryan Boot

Joe Slinn

Kjell Knops

Luke Dennis

Harry Middleton

Graham Kelly

Billy Reeves

Mike Calveley

Anton Forrester

Chris Regis

Dan Turner

Is that it? that’s depressing. For me, they can all go.

The only one I'd keep out of that list is Knops.

George Smith i believe has a release clause in his contract if relegated at chesterfield,he is a young left back they signed from Northampton for a fee...played 30+ games for Barnsley, the interesting bit is that he played for Gateshead under Aspin last season on loan

Wouldn’t mind their goalie and he is a local lad from Chesterton.Wouldnt think his loan club would keep him at Chesterfield now they are relegated.

Think he is a youth international.

I do think that one or two will be paid up BUT i have no doubt that some on here will blame Aspin if they dont see those players and Pugh and Tongue not on the released list not once thinking its ALL down to Brown

Aspins fault?? Of course not, it will be Smurfs fault for tying Aspins hands behind his back and forcing him against his will to sign them back up.

Unless a player is a disruptive influence there is no point paying a player up. What may happen is a player could have an offer from elsewhere and we give them the difference, but it only frees part of a wage. I'd guess Tongue is on about 50k, so he might have a chance of being a player coach lower down on say 25k. We'd have to give him 25k to leave, so we need a better player for half his wage. If we just pay him up we write a cheque for 50k ... so we have no player and no money.

Trying to sack players is very problematic. If Tongue turned up 5 minutes late and got sacked we'd have to sack Pope if he did the same thing.

How is it the chairman's fault! The previous manager felt they were the best he could sign with funds available. The contract was the one agreed. That's something every new manager has to live with. Adams grumbled about Yates when he joined, who had been signed precontract by Glover. It takes at least 2 years at most clubs for a manager to fully get their own team. Unless you only offer one year contracts it's just something you have to live with.

So are we absolutely sure Tonge has activated the clause? Or is it just guess work?

Pugh confirmed it himself, so he's here.

But Hannant had a picture on instagram, stating they were out for Tonge's farewell do...

I have absolutely no idea, I was making a general comment about players under contract. It's possible he wants to retire. It won't be a question of him activating a clause it will activate - unless he's spoken to the club and said he wants to call it a day.

Okay :-)

But hope to GOD he's chosen the latter!!!

Kay and Pugh is enough old legs, and if we get a good League keeper in, he's not going to be 20 is he...

We have to get more energy in midfield! Just look at Saturday. I know Hannant was in there, but look at their second goal. Kay moves as if he had to move a walker infront of him... Turns like a ferry and gets absolutely planted!

Where has this clause in Tonge’s contract come from? No mention of it when he signed, like there was for Pugh. Think this is a case of Chinese whispers. His contract is up this summer, and he should not be offered a new one

Unfortunately the main man possibly responsible? ( Brown ) i say possibly as i'm sure others were involved in the negotiations isn't here to face the music.

Surely serious questions should of been asked about the length of some of the contracts dished out, particularly given the age of some of the players.

Despite the fact since moving into midfield Kay has been decent there is no way at 34 he should of got a 2 year deal. The same applies to Barnett who in his last 61 appearances has notched 3 League goals.

Baffled by the rumours/ truth about Pugh and Tonge and if they have triggered extensions that leaves us with a predominantly dads army base before any more signings come in, and also takes up a chunk of the budget.

I think Kay can do a job though despite what i said above but he is 36 in October so surely a 20 games a season filler.
