To be fair he never had any pace to start with so he could probably do a similar job still to the promotion team. He wasn't the greatest but you could always guarantee he would give 100 percent. At this level you need a lump in the back 4. Without Gunning we are well short on experience at the back and physical presence.

Is this serious? I liked John McCombe but if we're having to take him on loan from a struggling National League side things are more desperate than I thought. I hope - and it is hope - that he can do a job for us but I'm worried, especially as we're still so weak in midfield which won't be giving him much cover if anyone runs at him at more than 10mph.

Surprised he’s only 32. As long as you play him with a quicker centre half then he probably wouldn’t be too bad for the rest of the season.

IT won't be a loan as we now have five on loan with Charlie Raglan.If Chester need to cut their wage bill a free transfer may be an option.Would give us cover for any injuries.

He was good....6 years ago...when we were last in league 2...when we finished 18th in 2008/09.

 

We went on to do better.

 

I’ve seen better defensive options in the Central Midlands league...but they may prove too expensive for Smurf.

My understanding is you can still have him on loan. It's just that then you would only be able to include five of the six in the matchday squad. Brown did that earlier in the season when he seemed to want to get every Football League winger on loan (Harness, Whitfield and Stobbs) plus we had Pyke, Anderson and Denton. It meant we hardly saw hide nor hair of Stobbs.
