Trump

Why? Too easy to just say "straw man".

Tools they may be to some/many but they are the backbone of much of western society like it or not and yield enormous political power and are exerting it..hence we end up with Trump as president. We dismiss them as tools at our peril.

Because it was a perfect example of a straw man argument.

I do wish members of the Trump government and entourage would tell the truth when questioned, how long will it take them to realize the truth will eventually emerge, it may take a few days, months but it will come out and the pot will keep simmering until it boils.

Unfortunately my support and enthusiasm for the Donald is diminishing on a weekly basis due to the transformation of his presidency to a clone of the clintons. Eg his support of the murderous Saudis where he has clearly sold his sole to the devil in pursuit of dodgy arms business deals same as we have in britian. Trump needs to get back to his pre-election scripts quickly imho to restore that agenda.!

It definitely does but you could say the same for a lot of inner city people in the U.K., crimes if you go to London a lot of cockneys don't know anything north of Watford. They say that 60% Americans don't have a passport, I'd be surprised if more than 40% of British have not been outside of Europe.

I'd agreew with you that 40 per cent of UK citizens have not been outside Europe, but that is a whole universe of difference from Americans not leaving the US.

Europe, close to 50 countries without checking, 100 languages, even more peoples and cultures, an unbelievable range of scenery, climate, political diversity, traditions, religions, achievements and histories.

I really don't think your comparison is either fair or relevant Phil.

Whilst morally wrong if the USA doesn't sell arms to the Saudi's then they will just turn to the Europe, Russia or China to get them, America first is Trumps motto!

One major reason Trump got elected was Washington had become the bastion of political correctness, another reason was the bickering and infighting between Republicans and Democrats that rendered Capitol Hill virtually moribund.

Because he was an outsider and not a career politician people saw Trump as a man to get things done, to cut through political correctness but it hasn't happened 'cause the Democrats are now repaying the Republicans and the same impasse has occurred. It hasn't helped that some of the legislation Trump has put forward is fairly "radical", eg replace and repeal Obamascare and the ban on muslims from 7 countries (incidently Obama introduced extreme vetting of people from these countries) and his small majority has disappeared and hence no legislation is passed.

I'm no Trump fan but he's not a politician and it shows.

Without getting too deep into this, but during the Falklands Conflict (it was never an actual war as no side declared

war on the other) the biggest damage caused to the British Navy was the exocet missile which was sold to the Argentinians by France. Whilst France was a Western ally it wasn't technically a member of NATO. So technically the biggest threat to the British came from the French. Also the American Delta Wing Stealth Aircraft which the USA had thought was "invisable" to radar, had actually been "visible" to the French for years, but they never bothered to tell NATO. So my point is, who really are your allies and who really are your enemy's ?

France always a member of NATO, just independent command for a period.

Meaning what ? I don't mean this as a confrontational comment. I would just like you to clarify what "independent command" in real terms actually means. They were either full participating members or not. "Independent command" would seem to indicate yes they were members of NATO, but did their "own thing". Their knowledge about the Delta Wing being a prime example.
