Norman said last night that the turnover at Vale was £3 million. I assume that was a round figure. The last published accounts for the club in 2010 had the turnover at £3.5 million. The Football League rules now state that the wage bill for players in League 2 cannot exceed 55% of turnover. Anyone who was expecting our wage bill to be way more than £2 million is, quite frankly, barking mad.

The only way to improve it is to get more people through the turnstiles, spend more money in the shop and increase commercial revenue in what is to all intents and purposes a recession.

Although maths was never my strong point, doesn't that mean a maximum of £1.65 million for the wage bill?

don't want to sound negative, but the sound of micky is exactly inspiring is it?...Im hoping for mid table, not a struggle to survive!

Now I wasn't there last night so may be a different tone from smurf on budget and expectations.

hoping some1 could help me in what smurf said on this.

cheers

Smurf didn't actually say what the budget would be ,only an increase in % terms.but did say he could get us to the Championship.Adams is the one suggesting we will be in the bottom 6 budget wise in League 1 and struggling at the bottom of the table.Maybe so,but who would you buy a season ticket from?I'm not sure how Adams is able to say what other clubs' budgets are.He needs to be reigned in a bit and kept away from microphones IMO.

Maybe it is just a ploy to make sure that we only get interest from players who really want to play for us rather than ones who think they can make a fast buck.

I think you'll need to get a few lads from out of the Railway Paddock for that to happen.:DUnfortunately money talks,it's the comments from Adams that are disappointing as they may put potential new players off coming. He'd have been better off saying nothing.I'm not really sure what benefit the club has got from today's press conference to be honest.

Saying our budget is in the bottom six is different to saying that's where we'll end up. I know many are ambivalent about Adams but he bleeds every ounce of value out of the players he signs and if we keep him I think we'll compete very favourably.

I would disagree. When we were in Division 3 in the 1988/89 we lost Sproston and Hazell to injury and to bolster our promotion push, we spent £200k on Glover and £75k on Gary West. The following summer we then spent £200k on Aspin. Then there was Foyle for £300k, McCarthy, and Ainsworth for £500k.

I have an inkling that the poster that you are quoting, wasn't actually born then.

I get that he may want to slightly dampen expectations or that it is to put agents/greedy players off, but surely every clubs playing budgets for next year cannot be common knowledge throuhout football can it? Smurf said he was budgeting on 6500 crowds - i think we will beat that comfortably.

Above 8000 we will make a profit.
