Clarke to Cheltenham

Iron Curtain

Cheltenham are a good club being an example of punching above their intrinsic weight. But Clarke looks to have a Forest Green level challenge to keep them in L1. So far, played 9, won nil, drawn 1, lost 8. There's no unlucky in those results with 20% of the season over.

They've had a few beatings as well 3-0 I am pleased he is back and it will give us the chance to show appreciation when they come down Vale Park but seems a real task that one, guess location has played a part in it.

Good luck to him, although I can't think of a tougher position in league football (well perhaps Sutton)

Played 9 won 0 goals for 0...

I'd be interested to know the contract length...

He can’t really lose because they can’t get any worse.  No doubt he’d be seen as the ideal manager for next season in League 2 if they get relegated, as looks highly likely.  If they break the hoodoo of scoring and start to pick up any points who knows.  Could be that once they get their first goal and points things will pick up, there’s plenty of time on their side if they can turn it around quickly.

Clarke is certainly the right kind of infectious character, assuming he’s mentally back to something like his old self…..which sincerely hope he is.

Strange decision from Clarke for me. They're a club that are at their absolute ceiling in terms of level. He's inherited a very poor squad, which many people expected to get relegated before the season has started. He'll likely have very little money to play with in January, which is still a long way off.

If it were me, I'd have waited until a team like Bradford got rid of Hughes. A big club, down on their luck, that need revitalising and have the potential to be a Championship club.

Perhaps he expects Cheltenham will go down and then he can rebuild to get another promotion on his CV. Does feel like he's jumped into this one a bit.
