Match Thread: Port Vale v Forest Green Rovers

With confidence high after an epic win at Derby and signs of cohesion evident, consolidation in mid table will be expected. But one game at a time, putting a 7-point gap between Forest Green would be the immediate effect of a win. Draws at Lincoln and Charlton by FGR indicate an ability to grind out a point away, beating Bolton at home will be a boost. But on balance a 3-1 to the Vale.

Got to go for it and get these points sewn up. The only way to peg teams back in this league is playing with an attacking line up and a solid back line.

I’d be utterly amazed if Jones and Garrity were dropped, there’s no chance we’ll play this team but that’s what I’d play.

Only 2 defenders in that team. Like the idea though!

You re actually right.. Garrity won’t be dropped .. apart from that you re miles away… and as for a change in formation… ….  No need brother

Watching Forest Green last season I thought they were the most well drilled team I saw. It often happens that the team with a higher level of drill, not necessarily better players, wins L2 because that delivers consistency. Inconsistent performances, as teams and players, are key reasons for ending up in L2 aside from insufficient talent.

But they ran out of steam in the last quarter of the season and fell over the line. They didn't disappear into the sunset as they once threatened. Then their manager left for a higher level opportunity.

They've therefore been struggling for about a third of a season taking the end of 2021/22 and 2022/23 to date. They have lost their way? Meanwhile we seem to be coming together albeit still prone to a blowout.

We need to beat these. It's important to beat the lower teams in L1 obviously. I think we will with a level of performance we are capable of based on resilient defence and taking chances.
