Match Thread: Port Vale v Forest Green Rovers

I don't know what team DC will pick. One principle is same again after a 'big' win. Another is the right team for the opposition and playing at home on the front foot. Another is a test tube team determined after sports analysis. Another is some rotation to keep a deeper proportion of the team match fit.

One thing that I think would be really helpful to chances in this league is a difficult to break down defence. Are we on the edge of getting one of those?

Think our defence needs a lot of work still because lets be honest Derby should have had 2 goals for sure both from pull backs from right and left side in first half alone solid enough v Sheffield Wed but I never felt we were that secure v Derby .
People blame our midfield but I feel that we are a bit flat footed at times .
Haven't looked how many we conceded but I'm sure it's too many 7 v Exeter and Peterborough alone so I feel we have much work to do at the back .
Forrester in the centre made us solid enough last 2 but still bit concerned on the other 2 though even though Smith's efforts always top notch and I feel Jones has performed well enough .
Lots to learn yet and much work to do as a team to improve in all aspects of defensive work

8 League games without a clean sheet, it's an area we definitely need to tighten up on, otherwise we are having to score at least 2 to have a chance of winning games.

We've conceded 17 goals which is the 6th highest in the league

its not great but I guess if you look at it 7 of those were in 2 games (Exeter and Peterborough) so only 10 in 10 other games which is a decent enough record so bar the odd exception game wise we in the main are fairly solid defensively. If we can settle the back 3 into a consistent line up it should improve us further.

Expect FGR to play it out from the back.

Get at them as we did last season and just for once we might be happy Saturday evening instead of the usual 'After Lord Mayor's Parade' disappointment.

God we are a pessimistic bunch. "Usual disappointment"  We just got promoted last season and are currently doing well in league above. Where is this usual disappointment coming from these days?
