Match Thread: Port Vale v Tranmere Rovers

Featured Replies

Some people are embarrassing. Only 11 games gone and we sit outside the playoffs on goal difference, yet you want the manager sacked? Clearly today is gut wrenching but no need for knee jerk reactions.

If we beat Scunthorpe by 4 we go 3rd

Just trying some positivity

If I’m honest even at two up we were not in total control.   They always looked capable of scoring and both Crookes and Clark were struggling, maybe not because they were having an off day but because they couldn’t handle their respective opponents.    Another puzzler was putting Oyeleke up front.   Not known for chasing lost causes but he tried. I thought he would go into the middle and release a bure mobile runner to hold on to it up top.

Agree.Tranmere always looked to have goals in them. Forwards and midfield i can see goals. Rodney should have stayed up front and swapped Amoo for Montano or even Brisley and pushed Clarke forward a little.

unfortunately ifollow worked properly this week and we had to witness a thoroughly incompetent and unprofessional second half. the statistics show the better team won, even though they needed the help of the most disgraceful exhibition of reffing seen for a long while. Again this defence was caught ball watching and legge/smith/crookes not clearing easy balls in the box. the final goal there were five vale players between the ball and the goal! no one got close to it. lacking effort and energy besides being incapable of winning and holding on to the ball.beside that it was entertaining !!! the blame lies firmly at the players feet, not askeys.🥵:redcard2:

So he shouldn’t attempt a tackle to stop an attack?  I’m still not convinced it was a red mind. Nine times out of ten a ref would have given a yellow.

Also, to all the Askey haters, we had won that game with 10 men at 90 minutes. Tell me how he gave away two goals in that ridiculous 6 mins of added time?

I don't think that he was ever going to win the challenge.  By going to ground like that the only question was would it be a yellow or a red.

From that perspective there may have been other better options than simply diving in.

Jacko, you have have watched football , I have played and that was pointless. I dont think for one minute he did us any good today. Tackle yes, that was no use at all.

Did they go out and defend 10 men behind the ball in desperate attempt to get a smash and grab result?

No idea, but they've conceded 24 times so far in the league.

Think that’s my point though, as Pope says in his column, they will play very differently int he league career in the first round of the cup trying to get an upset smash and grab win.

Comfortable John's excellent game management strikes again.

Ref was absolutely useless there.  Didnt think ours was a pen and Joyce was a booking for me.

Couldnt see a penalty in theirs either.

Foul on Pope for their equaliser.

Great game, but I need a lie down for a bit now.

Anyone who's made it to the age of 70 and beyond watching us, I take my hat off to you.

As someone in that age category, I'm seriously thinking of giving it a rest - the owd ticker wunner tek eet fer much longer!

Ultimately disappointing, but what an entertaining game.

Tranmere are a good side and will be up there.

Vale matched them with tremendous energy.

I thought the game would have been more suited to Cullen than Pope.

That performance tells me we will do well over the course of a season.

Did you watch the first half? If so what was the score?  From memory, we were doing just fine with Tom Pope on the park.

Just to spell it out to the simpletons out there, the sending off changed the game. Simple as that.  Get over your disappointment, stop blaming the manager and look at the real reasons we lost the game.

I agree but the sending off was part of the game. You cannot just lie back and lose. You have to react.  Just as important an issue was the conditions. I think the players tired very quickly and Tranmere forced us back. This is when you need help when you do eventually get the ball away from your own box.

Step up Rodney. Sorry not for me. He is poor.     I know he scored but i am more concerned with his performance to help the team out. He has to fight. He has to win the ball and hold it. He was too weak and didnt die for the cause, not for me.

*in the league compared to

Terrible typing from me!

I get the point that Kings Lynn are not great. But the FA cup throws up crazy results. It happens... bringing it up every time things don’t go our way doesn’t add much.

I agree entirely with that, however frustrating the ref was, we have to dig deeper and fight more. Even when it was 2 nil, I could see goals in them and a tight result.

Well.....<ovf censored> the bed as they say! I'm not as angry as last week's submission that's for sure but that was one strange game.

Thought our penalty was soft but swings and roundabouts and all that. Then we score an absolute belter of a set piece move.....I can't remember us ever scoring one straight from the training ground like that. 2-0 up but they're still a threat and will probably finish up around the play-offs if not automatic spots.

Then Joycey gets sent off and we're dead in the water in my mind. I'm unsure still but you could see he was going to be late but the telling thing for me was, as someone has already pointed out, he couldn't get the card out quickly enough. He didn't give himself any time. from then on I thought we'd be lucky to get a point if they scored quickly and so they did. Tin hat on now but I'm not sure Popey is fouled, I think he trips himself up but given some of the decisions the ref had already made I couldn't believe he waved play on. (Smithy then loses Vaughan who scores.) Not a clue what their penalty is for as Leggey seems to attempt to make a block.

Rodders scores a beauty but there's still 15 minutes left so I'd be grateful for a point......Smithy makes a mistake to give them the equaliser on 93. Did anyone notice how their 3rd goal started when Rodders showed his naivety just inside their half? It needed belting down into a corner.....in fact Wozza, I think, was in acres of space having busted a gut to there but Rodders lost the ball and they built from there.

Oh well another Satdee night ruined but not as badly as last week and at 2-0 with 11 men each the points are ours. For me Vale Park is too big to sit in defence with only 10 men for over half an hour so I couldn't see us getting anything out of the game but we woz robbed in the end......where did he get 6 minutes from?
