Aspin close to leaving the Vale ?? Staying

Vale were better today because the players tried hard and didn't give up, they worked for the manager. This showed that they want N.Aspin to stay.

Maybe the tide has turned?

Why can’t they do this every game, for the manager, for the supporters and for themselves.

Am sorry, I just can't and won't accept that players putting in a shift (and it sounds like most did today) means they are playing for the manager anymore than I accepted that in the past few weeks when many haven't been putting the same effort in, it meant the manager has lost the changing room!

Utter tosh, and on reflection it's another significant reason why NA has to go. It is his sole responsibility to ensure this doesn't happen, and like many on field issues, it's another area where he has clearly and continually failed.

If your team talk, tactics, motivation skills and or use of the hairdryer, a manager still can't consistently lift his team, his players to any level of acceptable performance, certainly effort wise, then clearly something is seriously amiss.

Todays point frankly, was as welcome as it was unexpected, but taking romance out of any possible decision, that doesn't explain nor excuse the on pitch dross, poor team selections, offensive cowardice and one dimensional football Neil has provided, and please don't mention stability, or he must have time to get it right he's been at the helm for15 months not 15 weeks!

We all know and unfortunately accept we have no workable or demonstrable plan B, but that acknowledgement is heavily compounded by the modern day footballing inadequacies of our bloomin A game, an antiquated utterly predictable system that other managers nullify with consumate ease.

Does anyone really want to see NA the man, NA the legend lose his job?

Of course not, but let's be honest, if it was anyone else that had forced us to endure such rubbish and worse without any signs (certainly none that I can think of) that things are or even could be turned around, we wouldn't just be inviting his sacking, we would be baying for it.

To anyone pleading for Aspin to go, hang your heads in shame. You are pleading with the most incompetent buffoon in the footballing world, a man who has failed with every major decision he's had to make, to make another major decision. Hounding out a living legend of our club who is clearing up the huge mess left by others, all of which were caused by that fat ***** we have as chairman. He's destroyed the reputation of the club, and made it such an unattractive option, whoever we have as manager will struggle to make progress. We have a wage structure that year on year leads to managers missing their 1st choice targets and getting a huge squad with no quality.

Under the circumstances, with that tool as chairman, no manager would do better.

The fact that he comes out with that after a point at the league leaders rather than a 4-1 home defeat smacks of him feeling sorry for himself and going for the sympathy vote. Yes there were a few grumbles today when Whitfield was taken off but we were one down and taking off an attacking player. It was never going to be a popular move.

No doubt the chairman is a wrong un, but we've also got a real problem with some of our "supporters" who seem to revel in booing and jeering. It goes back years and many players & managers must leave us with a dim view of our club.

I agree, probably better for Aspin to leave the club now whilst he has his reputation intact, move on get another job at a club where he will be appreciated. Get some other no mark in who has no previous connections at the club to take the flak when he also fails under Smurthwaites leadership. If he does make a go of it then it's a win win, even if it is only 9 wins in a year.

Baying for it ? You've been doing that for weeks.

I spoke with someone who attended today and he said that there were about a dozen people who shouted their displeasure when Whitfield was taken off. A dozen from >200 isn't many at all.

Also feel that Aspin is too critical of the few people who are vocal when they're not happy. It's football, it should go over his head and he certainly shouldn't react to it. He's a professional manager after all. Channel that energy onto the pitch, towards the officials, get in their ears. They mentioned that the Cowleys did nothing but that today, appealed every decision, I think even got Kay his yellow. Maybe that's helping their cause and they're moving in the right directions.

Maybe he should stop being so stubborn? When we play like s... for ages, and he puts out the same side week in week out, and it keeps being s..., what does he expect from the fans? Today showed, that mixing it up a bit, contributes to the team. And again today; why the h... Gibbons hasn’t played more, I will never ever know! Oh wait, because another of Aspins weird decisions was, that Rawlinson is a better RB than Gibbons.

People saying he doesn’t have square pegs to put in square holes. What a load of ...

He has brought in loads of players, loan included, he just wont use them! We have wingers, but he sticks Conlon out there. We have a RB, but he sticks Rawlinson out there, and the list goes on.

I’m absolutely not defending throwing personal abuse at him, but the way he sets up and chooses to line up, choosing not to change what clearly isn’t working, he must accept the fans not to be happy.

Is he really expecting applause from the fans, after Oldham? And the s... we’ve been showed the past months?

He makes the decisions, he must stand by them and defend them! Instead of believing he has a divine right to the truth, getting insulted when the fans question him.

He needs to change his way, because he has been alienating himself from the fans, for a long time now!

Unfortunately the blue one will have no idea who to replace Aspin with so it is not really an ideal time to get rid of the manager during a transfer window. We are probably only three players short of a decent team who can keep us in the league easily. But Aspin really needs to get a grip of much better tactics for home games if he is going to stay and gain the goodwill back from the fans who are desperate for him to go.

I feel it would another backward step if Neil goes, performances haven’t been good enough, I accept that, but he is pretty much building a team from scratch, and as with every signing, some work out, some don’t.... Manny, Conlon, Legge, Brown, Hannant, all good signings, Joyce and Miller, not so...it’s football, it happens Neil is trying to turn around a club who has been in decline for 4 years, it cannot be done overnight, take Notts County as an example, they spent a small fortune in Pre Season and are bottom of the league, Neil Aspin will have his targets for the transfer window, let him continue to build the team he wants.....
