Aspin close to leaving the Vale ?? Staying

A club the size of Vale ( a league 2 Club) cannot afford to keep paying managers off and starting all over again that's why Aspin to stay is the correct decision, let them run there contracts out then if a change is required that's the time to do it,if he turns it around then extend the contract.

So bearing in mind that Aspin states (not for the first time) "The Chairman has been very supportive", are we all wrong in our intense dislike of Smurthwaite? Beyond him wanting to recoup as much money as possible, has he done much else wrong? Aspin obviously thinks not.

The point about the chairman being supportive came across as quite laboured.

Having watched the interview as posted on the RS Twitter feed, I personally think that you've put your own slant on that. Entirely subjective, I appreciate, and I certainly didn't take that from it.

So you are happy with less than 5% of the £2.2m transfer income being reinvested in players? ... that should set a club like ours up for success!

You are happy that he has taken us from a steady league 1 club to within one point of relegation from the football league and the bottom league 2 club in the last 12 months?

You were happy with the decimation of the squad and Bruno experiment?

You are happy that whilst the club was fighting for its life as the worst club in league 2 over the last 12 months he decided to buy Nuneatons ground and planned to build hotels around the ground?

You are happy that he has taken the cheap option on managers such as Brown and Neil “I’m certainly not here for the money as it’s not very much” Aspin.

Are you happy that he values the club, not at what it’s worth, but the money he has lost on it due to his own stupid decisions?

Are you happy that all he cares about is “not losing on the deal” so is syphoning off cash (again... £2.2m received!!!!!!) as quickly as he can?

Tuesday - "If people don't want me here, then maybe it is time for me to go."

Friday - "My own fate won’t be decided by people who want to boo me or want to abuse me."

As clear as his tactics.

Or a prime example of how every single word and syllable gets viewed, analysed and commented on in a way that never happened before the internet.

I don't believe that he has ever invested much cash into Port Vale but do think that he has taken quite a considerable amount out of us.

And "supportive" can just mean "this is your last chance, or else". I think any manager, with poor form, knows that. I hope that a bit of clarity, means full support from all sides. ( Aspin in/out). Hopefully a stable situation, will see the players respond too and an upturn in form. Other issues aside, it's time to back the team on the pitch. The club is at a low point, has been for a while. We all know the limitations, investment, etc. UTV

I love the bloke.

Anyone who tells the fans "If I leave, you lot are shafted" is a good 'un in my book. Promising to sack Rob Page on-air....quality. Being thick enough to think Mourinho was going to send Man United starlets here - good move. Being gullible enough to sign arguably the most desperate shower of players ever from abroad because an agent told him they were really good - easy mistake to make. Splitting the ground from the club - altruistic.

Yes, he certainly gets a raw deal from some fans. I'm stumped as to why though.

Well I wasn't going to put anyone else's slant on it.

Okay so Aspin and Co are staying. That means not only the fans, but the players and chairman need to support Aspin and Co.

The players have shown glimpses they can do it. The Chairman needs to show the money so quality players can come to Vale Park - not quantity - we tried that and it was not great.

Aspin and Co in return for this support need to show they can provide the team with the right tactics and formations.

Being a Vale fan is never easy is it.

He could have quit and stated he'd had no support from the Chairman despite being criticised by sections of the crowd.

I'm damn sure I couldn't be a football manager under a chairman whose non-support would damage my reputation and ability to further my career.
