To be fair when I was working for Kidsgrove taxis, there was a guy we used to take Congleton to play in their reserves. He was telling me one night a player was on the verge of leaving Congletons 1st Team, as Kidsgrove wanted him and were prepared pay him £500 a week.

That was around 2013 so make of that what you will.

That is the problem trying to sign players in January.

Most decent players have a contract.Norman has a theory that you sell your best players in January not buy them.Any players coming in will be loan players not wanted by their clubs.

Really we ought to extending the contracts of our decent players now instead of waiting for Norman to try to screw them in the summer.

We are continually having this problem every January. The problem has been increased by the change in loan rules which means we end up stockpiling mediocrity in August just to boost numbers.

 

Our squad is now absolutely threadbare, aside from maybe Tonge and Pugh i am struggling to name anybody else available other than the 16 who were in the squad the other night.

 

In reality who are you going to get in January? We aren't exactly a great prospect floundering in the bottom half of the table.

The only players likely to join are ones who have been on short term deals elsewhere.

 

We are in an awkward position where clearly bodies need getting in due to injuries and suspensions but the likelihood of anybody remotely decent coming is doubtful.

 

Don't envy Aspin at all in his search, basically after a needle in a haystack.
