Sounds like a Dutch auction and a little unprofessional by the selling club however personally I'd prefer a couple of signings who are proven at this level. I think we've had enough chancers.

I get so sick of people urging us to buy 'proven league players'! EVERY player signed is a gamble, 'proven' or not. Over the past 3 seasons, I can count the number of 'proven' players who have joined us and pulled up trees or, even, done a good job. The likes of Lawrie Wilson, Luke Joyce, David Worrall (in the main), Martin Paterson, Tyrone Barnett, Rob Taylor, Danny Pugh, Michael Tonge and Rob Lainton all spring to mind as 'proven' players who have all been, in short, cr@p and, no doubt in the main, negotiated a higher wage than a younger player would on their 'proven' ability. Only Scott Brown, Leon Legge, Popey, Anthony Grant and, at a stretch, Anthony Kay, have done well for us, coming in as 'proven' players. By far and away the best and most consistent players that we have had over the same period have been players that you wouldn't, at all, label as 'proven', such as Nathan Smith, Remi Streete, Mitch Clark, Alex Jones, James Gibbons, Manny (until very recently), Kjell Knops, Jak Alnwick. Luke Hannant and Ben Whitfield.

Writing a player off on the basis that he's not a 'proven' player is, simply, ridiculous.

who in their right mind would want to come here, that BBC has turned this club into a shithole, the tight ****** wont pay decent wages, what he knows about football could be stencilled onto my **** end and port vale is just a cash cow for the greedy self serving ******* and on top of that we have a manager and an assistant who says we've played well when weve lost, neither of them could find their arses with both hands we'll be playing chesterfield next season as easy as *******.

Firstly you are confusing 'proven' with 'past it'. Secondly I accept every player is a gamble but some are 2-1 shots and some are 50-1 shots. In our current position we need the former. This Irish lad may go onto be a decent player but is he going to hit the ground running having never played league football? The position were in we cannot afford anymore signings (permanent or loan) who need 3 months to bed in and if Smurthwaite can't fund a couple of signings who some reasonable league experience then there's no hope.

Sounds like Quigley and Kanu will go back to their own clubs. Would not be surprised if some of the other loans go back as well. At least this frees up some loan slots for Aspin and Co to use.

On top of that Oxford have outbid us for the part time as well.

Can only see this being another transfer window where we actually get worse again. Will Smurf sell our prized assets from under Aspin and pocket the money.

Rock on relegation battle.
